My Attempts at Homemade Kretek-Like Tobacco for Pipe (With Recipe)

Anybody here besides me who got hooked on the clove-flavored Life Savers by their granddad like I was? I was so sad when they were discontinued.

Problems With a Friend Having Problems with Baldness

Had a co-worker who mentioned that he started losing his hair at 19 years old, and it was only a couple of years later that it was pretty much gone except for the surrounding fringe.

The Car Dealer Warranty Scam Bills.

Got a robocall a couple of weeks ago, purportedly telling me that I was one of the winners of a secondary prize from the Publisher's Clearing House sweeps. Went on with juicy details, rattled off some kind of number really quickly (twice even, but even if you had a pencil in your hand when the...

Input on Apple's New Desktop with their Own M-1 System, [Not Intel]

Abandoned the Windows environment when 2.0 was released, and spent most of the days thereafter at work rebooting the things. Had some good laughs years later with the sightings of T-shirts saying "Windows 95 -- Like Macintosh SINCE 1984" I can offer a couple of Mac SE-30 units, one with a...

    Sunday Comics

I remember Snuffy Smith, and Henry, and Lil' Abner, and that one about Maggie & Jiggs but don't remember the title.

Order from KBV Held Up by USPS for Two Weeks?

Louis DeJoy is still the Postmaster General, and these hold-ups of packages is one of his new rules which are designed to kill off the USPS for good.

    Bought My First McArthur

I have now my second MacArthur 5-star classic bent pipe (3-1/2 inch deep bowl) and I do indeed enjoy it when I've the time for a sit-down smoke (which is most of the time!). One word of warning, though. When I smoked some goopy Black Cavendish in my first of this pipe, it managed to...

If There Were No Nicotine in Pipe Tobacco...

And some others are adrenaline junkies, doing things like jumping out of perfectly good and fully functional airplanes for fun.

    American Civil War Pipes

Didn't briar start entering the market some time early in the 19th century? By the 1860s, I would imagine their availability had spread to some extent.

    American Civil War Pipes

Missouri Meerschaum didn't get its start until 1869, five years after the war ended. Anybody smoking a corncob probably made it themselves, while out in the field.

If There Were No Nicotine in Pipe Tobacco...

Would that theoretical lack of nicotine in tobacco mean that many pipe smokers would turn to kitchen gardening in order to harvest the leaves off their tomato plants, and curing them for adding as a condiment to their pipe tobaccos to get that nic hit?

    Smoke. Nothing Else.

I remember once visiting the log-cabin-style Sauna my grandfather built between his house and the woods back in the 1920s. It wasn't in use at the time. The changing room had the most intense and wonderful smell of lingering wood smoke ever, and looking into the sauna proper, even more so. That...

    Pipe and Tobacco Myths

My thoughts on that turned out to be "All a renter has to show for it at the ending, is a wastepaper basket full of old calendar pages."

    Being a Codger is Hard

That's a good enough reason to be driving an International Harvester Commercial Pickup Truck. Even the guys threatening other drivers with their hummers are nothing but a bump under your wheels.

    Being a Codger is Hard

I really hate those days when I wake up feeling that I'm the same age as this planet.

    Pipe and Tobacco Myths

Back during that era, Boone's Farm wines were also cheap enough in the Eugene/Springfield OR region to appeal to young and new drinkers.

    Pipe Smokers Etiquette

I've watched (or read) more than a couple of conversations (threads) that got to arguing the point of "what's normal?" and the above quote seems to be where most of these end up. What's normal in one region is usually considered the blackest heresy in the next one over. Or maybe in the next one...

    Pipe Smokers Etiquette

"Normal" is just a setting on a washing machine.

    Stem Etiquette

I only use them on the few pipes I have with wooden stems (don't like the texture in my mouth), and the pipes I have that slip out easily because I don't have the ability to put vice-grip levels of pressure on the stem with my jaws. I'd love it if there were a softie-bit available to put on...

    Hawaii Proposing Flavored Tobacco Ban

You have to get the bill amended to include banning flavored alcohols, under the same terms of making it less interesting to underaged children. Then see them try to pass a ban on both.
