    Peterson Pub Pipe

I was going to get a pub pipe after trying one at my local B&M, but in the end did not get on with the Hungarian shape. I went with a straight billiard style house pipe instead. I went from large to huge.

Any Fans of the Jobey Stromboli Pipes?

I'm going to have to agree with you about everything you said. They are damned fine smokers, but the screw in stem just seems like an issue waiting to happen. Thankfully, nothing has happened with the stems on any of my Strombolis, so maybe I'm making more of it than it is.

Any Fans of the Jobey Stromboli Pipes?

Nice! I like that color combo.

Any Fans of the Jobey Stromboli Pipes?

These were my gateway drug into the world of Castello Sea Rock pipes (and Old Antiquary to an extent). Started with the billiard Stromboli, then loved it so much I started seeking them out. The Hawkbill is my latest and rarest. They are fantastic smokers and I love the way they look. If you...

    Show Off Your Petersons Here!

Been enjoying this Rua the last couple weeks so much I went ahead and snagged one of the Barley spigots that dropped today (106 shape).

Buying Multiples of the Same Pipe

I have a couple pipes that I have multiples of. I really dig the Deerstalker shape by Peterson, so I have several of them, as well as their B42 shape. Castello shape 16 is another I just adore and have three of those. I'm close to getting another Savinelli 707KS as I've been enjoying it a lot...

    In Praise of Mixture 79

I don't care much for this one, but I do like Velvet. So what do I know?

    This May be Heresy........

Love the p-lip. I try to buy the Petersons I see and love with acrylic stems and those tend to be p-lips. Took me a bit to "get" the p-lip and where to position my lips on the stem, but once I got it I loved it.

    Horn Stems

Love my Ropp cutty with horn stem. Short smoke in a long pipe. Quite comfortable in the hand and the horn really jives with the aesthetic of the classic cutty. Highly recommend.

    The Perfect EDC Knife

I've been carrying a simple Opinel since my army days and it's always sharp and ready to go. I have one with a curved end (instead of a point) that I have in my pipe smoking area in the garage, too, that's perfect for emptying a bowl, tamping, and slicing up plugs.

    What Do You Do?

I'm a non-fiction writer for hire. Eight books published so far, most with Llewellyn Publishing, but one with Focal Press. Transitioning now to fiction so things are going a bit slower for me at the moment.

Do You have a Pipe You can’t Bring Yourself to Smoke?

I have one pipe that I'm reluctant to smoke, a Castello collection pipe that I don't want to rim darken. I usually gravitate to sandblasted pipes because I love the look of them and I'm not too worried about the rims--especially if they are plateau. I (wisely) spent the money for a pair of...

    Morning or Nights

I kinda switch back and forth between CM and EMP for my morning smoke (though I also dig Westminster and C&D Miskatonic Mixture at that time). I just dig the way GLP did ALL the Old London series tobaccos, especially CM, QN, Sixpence, Gaslight, and Meridian. Meridian kind of falls in between...

Who's Going to the Muletown Pipe Show in TN, in March?

I live in Memphis and am definitely going. Probably will hit the St. Louis pipe show as well. Both are a lot of fun.

Sometimes Only A Churchwarden Will Do

Savinelli Churchwardens are amazingly good. I kind of had bad luck with them until I got one of their 404 shape CW's. Smokes great and love the acrylic stem. I'd get one of the Peterson's, too, if they weren't all vulcanite (I like the D17 shape).

Which GL Pease Should I Buy?

Quiet Nights is definitely my favorite from that list, though I love ALL of the Old London series by him, with QN, Gaslight, Six Pence, and Meridian out front. Any of his tobaccos that push into Balkan territory are going to be fantastic as he seems to be a Balkan aficionado. Samarra and...

How Many Esoterica Blends are Rebranded Germain's Blends?

Interesting. I've heard people say that Germain's, much like Gawith/G&H, like to put specific toppings on their tobacco (I've noticed anise and apricot on a few), so I wonder if the difference you're noting here is just a different topping. At any rate, some of them taste close enough to each...

How Many Esoterica Blends are Rebranded Germain's Blends?

My local Tinder Box has done a great job of regularly getting the standard (less rare) Esoterica blends, so I've had a lot of experience with Margate, Dunbar, And So To Bed, and a few more. Recently they started getting some of the Germain's tins, so I snatched some up and I've noticed that a...

Where Did the High End Kaywoodies Go?

I have an older Weber (a cavalier) that I adore. Haven't come across a Kaywoodie yet that I just have to have (though I have a white billiard by them). Great list here.

What's Your Custom Blend Made Just For You?

I'm extremely picky about Oriental tobaccos and used to mix my own Oriental/Latakia blend sourced from a few places, but thankfully I found Tashkent by L.J. Peretti and it's everything I wanted from such a blend, so now I don't feel inclined to blend any more. Their Oriental #40 is also...
