    Hello from Victoria BC

No luck. The tobacco was certainly drier and less packed, and I did seem to have a bit more success keeping it lit, but not much, and definitely no taste. I may try the Irishman's method of filling a pipe next time (TheIronMonkey's video above), but I doubt that it will make all the difference...

Goodness, he makes it look easy. I'm sure it is, once you get the hang of it. Another dud for me today. I'll keep at it. Cheers.

    Hello from Victoria BC

Thanks very much. I'll give that a try tonight. I think you are right about the bowl being packed too tight. It's tougher to gauge when the tamper covers the majority of the tobacco's surface. The trouble I had with letting the tobacco fall into the bowl was that the ribbons were simply...

    Hello from Victoria BC

I had my first smoke last night. Complete failure. Dr. Grabow Lark with Arango's Balkan Supreme. The pipe is quite small (0.75" diameter), so I had some trouble packing it to the right density. I probably packed it too tight. I also think the toacco was too moist. I noticed quite a bit of...

    Hello from Victoria BC

Oof. So I just got my tobacco from SP -- came through Canada Post. $70+ in duty and taxes for just under 5 ounces (3 ounces + 50g). That amounts to about $15/ounce, FYI. That's BC, of course, so maybe a few dollars less in SK, assuming it's not all random. I've decided to take a route through...

    Hello from Ontario

You'd have to spend 48 hours outside Canada every time, no? You may not be entirely serious, but I might be. I'm trying to get my head around the regulations. I'm not too far from the North Dakota/Sask border (at least I won't be when I move next month). I'm waiting to see if I get dinged on 4.5...

    Hello from Victoria BC

The village is named after the only hill in sight -- and it's not much of a hill. I think they could have chosen a better name.

Please Help to Identify this Pipe

I will give it a try, then. I'm not interested in reselling -- it was a gift from a friend, so it wouldn't feel right.

Smokeable or not worth the time?

Please Help to Identify this Pipe

Yeah, it looks like Another Charlie picked up one with a procelain bowl. Quite attractive, but not sure how practical it is. Thanks all.

    Hello from Victoria BC

Sorry, quick follow up. By small, do you mean an ounce or two, or do you think my chances would be equally good with 200g. Do you know roughly what you get hit with per ounce? Is it pretty consistent or completely random when you do get dinged?

Please Help to Identify this Pipe

Cheers. That's a good start. I'll look into it a bit more. The bowl is absolutely tiny when you open the wind cap and look inside. I'd be curious if anybody has experience with this kind of pipe.

    Hello from Victoria BC

Thanks for the welcome, Fralphog (neat name). Jiminy, one of my hopes in joining the forums was to connect with others in Sask. Yes, I just bought a house with a couple acres on the edge of Spy Hill. My wife and I want to run a small market garden in the long term. I'm very excited -- a house...

Please Help to Identify this Pipe

I say it's odd looking, but perhaps I'm simply ignorant of the style. My friend gifted me this pipe, which he inherited from a family member. He also inherited a Kiko pipe made by the Kilimanjaro Pipe Company Ltd. from the same family member. I'm hoping someone may be able to help me identify...

    Hello from Victoria BC

I'm new to the pipe smoking world (and even the tobacco world). I live in Victoria, BC, Canada now, but I'll be moving to Spy Hill, Saskatchewan in June of this year.
