Drilling Off Center! Should I Even Try?

No. If it had a stem I'd say smoke it and see, what've you got to lose? But I wouldn't spend money having a stem made for it. Ditto, all the Peterson systems I had except for one looked like they were drilled by a blind man with palsy. I kept the one that accidentally got drilled on-center...

    Tobacco Advice

    1) Early Morning is Dunhill's weakest blend. 2) Early Morning is not cased and does not smell like whiskey, American or otherwise. 3) I'm voting for "Latakia turns you off". 4) Dunhill blends do NOT require any drying, HOWEVER if the taste is too strong for you, drying can and will dull the...

Problem With One Tobacco and Not The Other

If you had not mentioned Dunhill I couldn't argue with the oft-parrotted oversimplification regarding the tobacco being too wet. Now, it's perfectly okay if someone prefers to dial back the taste of Dunhill blends by drying them, however anyone who says they have trouble keeping Dunhill lit...

    Pipes And Sherlock Holmes

LOL the femme fatale in "Woman In Green" was Hillary Brooke, most well-known for her long run on The Abbot And Costello Show on TV in the 50s. I love those old Rathbone-Bruce movies, even the ones where SH is incongruously transplanted into the WWII-era and Moriarty is now working for the Nazis...

    Filters

Most pipe filters aren't really filters, they're moisture traps. Unlike cigarette filters which require all the smoke to pass through them, the majority of pipe filters allow most of the smoke to pass unrestricted. If your goal is to filter out the most impurities, buy cigarette filters meant...

    All My Pipes Smoke Hot

See the obvious fallacy to that assertion, which even a child could comprehend, is that if it were true, tobacco manufacturers would ship their blends bone dry. It would save them money on processing and packaging. OTC manufacturers wouldn't need to spend adding PG. Clearly, it is in the best...

    All My Pipes Smoke Hot

LOLOL when I saw the thread title I expected at least one nonsensical admonition to dry the tobacco, and I was not disappointed :D One doesn't need to have a PhD in thermodynamics to comprehend that regardless if the tobacco is soggy wet or bone dry, the temperature of smoke as it enters the...

    Observation About Reviews, In General...

The only sure way to know if I can correlate a reviewer's taste to mine is if he's reviewed at least one and preferably several blends I have already smoked. It's akin to having some object of known size in a photo for scale.

    Green under the gills

Not that I relish feeling nauseous but I wish I could find a blend that would give me even a little nic buzz. I'm thinking on my next order to pick up an ounce of Gawith Brown Sliced (the pre-cut version of Happy Bogey) as it's reputed to be a monster nic bomb.

    Dunhill Flake Review

^ More power to you, but I find the tins a bit too large in diameter to get evenly lit.

    Getting mixed messages about Falcons

Falcons have 2 major advantages, one is unlike Peterson system pipes and Carey Magic Inch pipes, Falcons actually deliver on their promise of a cool, dry smoke. The other is they are very sturdy and not apt to snap if kept in a pocket and inadvertently sat on. As such it makes a superior...

    RIP Ivan Koloff

Far from his subhuman "Animal" personna, George had a BS from Michigan State (played football for the Spartans for a short time) and a Masters from Central Michigan University. He coached high school football in suburban Detroit and was well-liked and something of a local celeb. IIRC he moved...

Anyone Recently Discover a New Blend That They Absolutely Love?

Really glad Amphora Brown is back, and hope it stays. Aside from me needing to leave it out at least 24 hours to get rid of some of the PG, it tastes like a medium-strong natural blend, unlike the rest of the mild-as-air heavily-topped OTC's.

I give up on 'thunderbird Inserts"

Basically those inserts use technology from a $1 Chinese BIC knockoff to give the same lack of functionality to a Zippo. Zippos have their drawbacks but for outdoor use are arguably unbeatable. Using Zippo fuel, not overfilling, and allowing the flame to burn one second before lighting up...

Anyone Else Rolling Your Own Cigars

I prefer not to take jobs away from impoverished octogenarian women in Carribbean sweatshops, thus I do not roll my own cigars.

    Falcon pipes

The bit is affixed with the manufacturer's intention of permanence. Probably glued. It is not meant to be twisted or removed. Cleaning the pipe is done by running a pipecleaner the length of the stem, and removing the bowl and swabbing out the reservoir (and changing the dry ring if you use...

Variations in Tins of a Particular Blend.

OTC's made in huge batches by a major tobacco manufacturer tend to be very consistent due to the protocols of automated mass production. With smaller blenders it depends on the care of a small group of people or even a single individual, so consistency can be variable.

Wish Me Luck - Going under the surgeon's knife......again

You may indeed have a hernia but not inguinal. Inguinal hernias are a defect in the inguinal canal, located on either side in the groin area. The vas deferens passes through the canal, but if the opening is too large, then the intestinal membrane and/or intestine can protrude also.

    SmokingPipes.com Kiribi Lighters

I smoke outdoors and only a Zippo isn't a PITA. If I smoked indoors I'd use matches or a $1 BIC clone. I admit those retro-look arm-style lighters are cool looking, but as a leftie the burnt thumb is a downside.
