    Flake For The Long Smoke

I acquired a Servi meerschaum with very tiny bowl but full size stem this winter, perfect for 30-45 minute smoke of flakes and "quick" 12-15 minute with ribbon cut. Check out some of the meerschaum offerings if you can, might fit the bill.

Seeking Source for Nording Freehand Replacement Stem

    Thanks, I'll check those out!

    The Psychology of Brands

Interesting concept, but the answer is no (or 42). We pipers are by and large curmudgeons who defy the status quo

Seeking Source for Nording Freehand Replacement Stem

I have an older Nording freehand from the late 1990s that tastes absolutely horrible after about 5-10 minutes, overtones of burning rubber ruin whatever blend is put in the pipe. I have deduced that it's the stem, and have tried in vain to remove oxidation from the stem but can't get the taste...

6 Year Old Pipe Beginning to Smoke Too Hot

Hahaha! Good thing I don't own any candlesticks. I am missing my pipe wrench though....

6 Year Old Pipe Beginning to Smoke Too Hot

Maybe it's the blend? I recently bought some VA #1, as it was my go-to blend many (10+) years ago. Back then (pre forum) I knew nothing about drying out, etc. rather just stuff and go, and I never had tongue bite or hot smoking. This recent purchase, coming back to VA#1 in over 10 years has...

    Best Brown - Golden Glow

I've had both in addition to FVF over the years. I much prefer either to FVF, but I like sweeter pipe tobacco. I also think they're slightly lighter on the nicotine content than FVF, which while not strong, is noticeable.

    Pipe Tobacco Availability Frustration

Perfect advice, ID those blends you enjoy and keep funds set aside when they cross your path. Since McClelland's closing last year I've managed to set aside literal pounds of my favorites Esoterica blends (Brighton and Kingsbridge) and expanded into many other blends that I didn't try before...

    First experience with aged tobacco

Maybe it depends on the blend. Coincidentally enough I popped open a 15-year old can of McClelland made Celebrated Sovereign I bought new in 2003 this past September. It was a favorite back in the early 2000s but fell out of favor once I found VA Flakes. Anyway, it's still OK at 15 years but...

    P&C has Esoterica

Dcon: If you don't have a pipe specific B&M within 50 or 60 miles, then talk to the owner of your nearest "vape" or cigarette shop. They can sign up and purchase from the same wholesalers as all the pipe-based B&Ms. Just commit to purchasing what they get for you. I picked up several tins...

    P&C has Esoterica

Online sources certainly have their place, especially large quantity orders of more readily available blends. However, B&Ms can't be beat for the ability to hold things for you when/if they come in. Actually getting the Esoterica blends you're looking for is worth the few dollars more you pay...

Newbie Cellaring Question -- Want to preserve opened tins

Those are the main factors that turned me from a cigar smoker to a pipe smoker gradually over the last 20 years. I smoke a good $20+ cigar once or twice a year now, and to be honest I enjoy most of my pipe blends better than any of the good cigars on my radar (Cuban Bolivars and Montecristos...

Newbie Cellaring Question -- Want to preserve opened tins

That is correct. I have had pretty good luck with McClelland ribbon not going too dry even after a few months in the original tin. Case in point: I have currently an opened tin of Celebrated Sovereign from 2003. I opened it last September and still have at least 60% left, not too dry and no...

    What's Your Car Pipe?

I used to. McClelland flake (Blackwoods or similar), folded and good charring light before leaving the driveway. It would still be going well after my 40 minute commute. But no more since acquiring my manual transmission Audi A4. No eating, drinking (except water or black coffee), smoking or...

    Life After McClelland.. Any Suggestions?

I was in your same shoes last year, couldn't find anything to replace my beloved McClelland blends such as Dark Star, Butera's Dark and Golden cakes, Royal Cajun Ebony, Bombay Extra, all the Christmas Cheers, and the wonderful but short-lived 40th. I tried many different Virginia and VaPer...

    Official BBQ Sauce Thread

I love all BBQ sauce, but the last few years I've been gravitating towards simple: brine first night before, around noon ight up mixture of lump charcoal and quality chunks of hardwood on the Weber grill, disposable aluminum pan of water under meat (2-tier fire), spray meat occasionally with...

Does Tobacco Smell Or Taste Better In Cooler Weather?

Even though I smoke primarily indoors, in the winter with lower humidity there's a noticeable improvement to the smoke: drier, cooler, and much sweeter tasting. I actually like good cigars during the dog days of summer.

Any Guitar Players Amongst Us? I'd Like Your Opinion.

Start with a steel string "dreadnought" style acoustic guitar setup properly with a set of 12s (strings). And speaking of used, some of the 60s and 70s era FG series Yamaha acoustics sound great and can be made to play very well if setup correctly. Should be well within your budget range and...

Alright, Serious Question of The Day: How Do You Like Your Eggs?

Another south central PA native here (born in Hershey), had to chime in on Scrapple. 9 out of 10 people I speak to here in Virginia have no clue what it is. My grocery store did actually carry some, but whoever they catered to must have passed away, because it's not longer on the shelves. I...
