    Tobacco Recommendations for a Beginner.

I'd recommend carter hall. It's very forgiving. I tried starting with virginia flakes and hated it. Carter Hall let me get the mechanics of pipe smoking down.

***What Are You Smoking, December 2020?***

Finally breaking into my tin of Samarra 20th anniversary blend. The only other oriental forward blends I've tried were the McClelland grand oriental series, and this seems right on par in terms of quality. The retrohale is where this one really shines. I get a spicy incense note that is pretty...

Anyone Else Still Feel Like It's Still September?

1 mcg of vitamin D = 40 IU, so it would only be 500 IU.

    Sutliff Cringle Flake 2020

Man, this stuff is great. Super smooth and mellow, but with depth of flavor and just a bit of tang. Based on how sticky it is, I thought it would take more drying time than it did. About an hour worked great for me.

    Smoking in the Home

I don't, because I don't want the lingering smell inside, and to avoid inhaling more smoke than I have to

Jim’s GLP Cumberland and Samarra 20th Anniversary Reviews.

These two don't seem to be moving very quickly, especially at only 2500 each.

    Matches vs. Lighters

Matches are fun as a novelty, or even a cedar spill, but lighters are my usual go to. Especially if there's any wind at all.

***What Are You Smoking, November 2020?***

Sutliff crumble kake red virginia in an old rusticated Johs. Sutliff has really stepped up their game recently!

    Bulk Firedance Flake -- Dry?

So I got the Firedance Flake tin in, and wow. It is 10 times stronger than the bulk in terms of topping strength. The flakes aren't overly wet either. It seems the topping just dissipates in the un-vacuum sealed boxes. Now I'm regretting cellaring so many bulk Gawith blends like Ennerdale...

Bought a Baki Meerschaum -- Shank Band Issue?

Sure thing, it's a seller on Aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/3239037?spm=2114.12010617.pcShopHead_13169433.0 Others seem to have received their orders without issue. When I initially ordered, the pipe I wanted was already sold to a domestic buyer, but the seller hadn't updated...

Sutliff: Cringle Flake 2020 is Out

Some of the retailers, including Tobaccopipes, didn't have an order limit. They went pretty fast!

Bought a Baki Meerschaum -- Shank Band Issue?

Thank you! I usually go for saddle stems, but this one caught my eye. Yup, it has a delrin insert on the mortise and standard briar style tenon.

C&D Carolina Red Flake Not Tasty

It was the right moisture for me right out of the tin, so I jarred it as is. It also depends on personal preference--some people like to dry all their blends to a crisp.

How Do You Classify 1/8th, 1/4th, 1/2 Bent?

It seems different manufacturers use the terms very differently. One brand's full bent is another's 1/2 bent. Do you guys base it on the angle of the shank to the bowl? For instance, there are some pipes where the bowl and shank form a right angle, but the stem is slightly bent. What would you...

What’s Going on in The Czech Republic?

The colors of the stem/band/shank go really well together on the first one

    Bulk Firedance Flake -- Dry?

Hmm, the time spent in the bulk jar or in the non-sealed 250g boxes could definitely be it! It's a shame, because I really enjoy what little aroma I do get from it. At least the underlying tobacco is still a solid virginia in its own right. I have a tin coming my way, so I'll update this thread...

    Man Down

It would make sense, considering how much of taste is actually from your sense of smell.

Bought a Baki Meerschaum -- Shank Band Issue?

Thanks for the replies guys; the seller got back to me surprisingly fast (versus 10 day when I first messaged him) saying that it's just wax that had collected near the band. Off how?

Bought a Baki Meerschaum -- Shank Band Issue?

So I just bought a Baki meerschaum after eyeing them for quite some time. Of course, right after I paid, I zoomed in closer to the image and the area that the shank band connects with the meer seems a bit off. It looks kinda grey/patchy. Do you guys think that's anything of concern? Compared...
