Mr. 3000 and a Load of Tobacco

Wow...that's a lot! I recon I've accumulated half of that over the course of a year!

    High / Low

I would go for the lower grade...you like the shape, it's the one calling to you. You can bet the same attention to detail will be found on both pipes. Often the higher grade is due to external factors, like the beauty of the wood. Or possibly the stem is hand made from rod and not a modified...

    Greatest Wife Ever

My wife bought me a kit in 2002, and I ended up making pipes as a full time career for the following ten years! You never know what this kit will lead to!

    Prepping SG Full Virginia Flake

I rub it out first and then let it dry...almost bone dry. It's a good smoke but I don't reach for it often. Some blends are popular and get a lot of hype, but if it doesn't work for your chemistry, that's OK, there are plenty of other good blends out there!

Beginner question from a longtime smoker

When I first started experimenting with pipe smoking, I found that the second half of every tobacco blend I tried tasted like ash. So, like you, I went back and forth between cigars (which were easy and flavoursome) and pipes. It took a long time to finally "get" the pipe. Packing method is very...

    Bad experience with tongue bite

My mouth is really sensitive, and if I try smoking more than one bowl a day my mouth starts to feel tender. I can get away with two bowls on the weekends if I keep to small bowls and smoke more slowly. Less can be more, in that I would love to smoke more, but being forced to limit my smoking due...

    Jim's McClelland 40th Anniversary Review.

    Pipe Tobacco: Heavy Hitters Lineup

I find most twists are heavy hitters, but the strongest and most disgusting twist I've smoked is Gawith & Hoggard Sliced Brown Twist. I can handle most high nicotine blends, but this one made me feel positively sick. I think I still have a big jar of it somewhere, and perhaps its time to bin it!

    Morta PAD

    Very cool looking pipe!

    Muted Flavor from Cob.

I agree with pipesmokingtom, a blend can be quite different from pipe to pipe, which is why it's important to try a blend in many types of pipes and chamber sizes to get the best from a tobacco.

    Removing Cake from Meerschaum Chamber

I predominately smoke Virginia leaf in my Meerschaum pipes, and the cake builds up really fast. I usually take a round tipped pen knife and shave off the cake every three or four smokes, once the bowl is cold. I check with my finger to make sure the chamber is back to feeling smooth and clean...

*** What Are You Smoking?*** (June 2017)

Woke up really early this morning, so I'm going to sneak in two pipes today. I'll start the day off with Compton's Three Feathers in a cob.

    Carving Skull Pipe

Not sure how I missed this thread, but that is a great carving!

    Question of pipe repair ethics

Fixing a partially burnt-out pipe or weak wall with pipe mud and then selling it without full disclosure is indeed foul play. You mention having owned and smoked the pipe for a year or so now, so there is probably nothing you can do at this point except for repair the wall again yourself and...

Could you take a side profile picture of that Cooke? I've never seen a Cooke in that style and would love to get a better look.
