    Nightmare

Had a dream last night I was smoking outside on a windy fall day and burned a hole in the wall of my favorite pipe. And it was one of those dreams that seems entirely real. Taste, smell, feel, the way time & physics worked in the dream all were just like being awake. I woke up so relieved it was...

    Who Doesn't Enjoy Plum Pudding?

Tis not my jam. And I like lat. I don’t like that sour, tangy note.

You May Say I’m a Reamer, Am I the Only One?

Might also try checking with a local B&M. I know Schwab’s in Lexington, KY will professionally ream any pipes you bring in. And the fee is nominal IIRC.

    Pipe Shapes/Styles I "Should" Try/Experience

This. I personally love churchwardens, and I’ve heard my whole life that they smoke cooler. Maybe they do in a science-experiment kinda way. But you can freight train a churchwarden just like any other pipe and burn your mouth up in the process.

Peregrination might be the most perfect word for the journey that is pipe smoking.

Newcomer Seeks Advice from the "Pipe Elders"

Good point in here! Relighting is just part of smoking a pipe. Don’t let it discourage you.

    Who Doesn't Enjoy Plum Pudding?

I don’t hate it. But I do feel like it is overhyped. I’m not crazy about its tartness. Every once in a while I’ll enjoy a bowl. But it’s never been something I want to sip on every day.

Newcomer Seeks Advice from the "Pipe Elders"

Welcome from Central KY. In “pipe world,” there’s a lot of advice, mainly bc we all enjoy the gentle art of pipe smoking so much. But here’s one nugget of wisdom I’ll pass on to you: don’t overthink it. You’re literally just buying a container in which to stuff dried leaves, light them on fire...

    Help With Latakia Difs

Might just have to it. Thought about buying a couple ounces of Latakia recently for blending experiments. Might pull the trigger.

    Help With Latakia Difs

Thx my friend. That’s helpful to know! Let me ask you another Q related to this: do you think a healthy helping of straight burley blended with Latakia could help produce this effect as well? Only reason I ask is because I’m sitting here smoking an afternoon bowl of Haunted Bookshop and...

    Help With Latakia Difs

Alright. Maybe some of y’all can help me out here. I wouldn’t call myself a lat lover. But I do enjoy it, and smoke quite a few blends in which it features. Now, I probably do smoke mostly English blends. But I’ve already established in other threads what blends I’d call my faves. In short, my...

    Cheap Pipes

Finally carved out enough time to read this essay. Thank you for sharing. Fascinating stuff. Writings like Dr. Hanna’s here work my brain into a pensive froth. After reading, this one thought has lodged itself quite firmly in my mind this evening: We pipe smokers are a bit of a paradox. We have...

What is Wrong With This Pipe

Nah, I understood you. I’m just 43 & never quite made it out of middle school. At least my sense of humor didn’t. My bad.

***What Are You Smoking, June 2022?***

I’m kinda stuck on Balkan Sasieni at the moment. Every time I load up something else lately, I find myself wishing I had just gone with Sasieni. My tastebuds get set in their ways for about 4-5 weeks at a time. Then one day, they just shift gears and ask for something different.

    Cheap Pipes

I want to clarify: this thread is in no way meant to knock expensive pipes, or to elevate cheap pipes as somehow “just as good,” or “superior” to more expensive ones. I greatly admire the skill and expertise that goes into artisanal and “prosumer” level work. My background is in music after all...

    Cheap Pipes

I have never opened up stem or stummel on any pipe. Would you mind explaining exactly how you do this? Bc I have two pipes in particular — my first pipe, the Grabow mentioned above; and a mystery churchwarden I bought who knows where — that I would love to smoke, but both are problematic. Very...
