    Hello, Chevronpiper. Welcome! Being in the Chicago area, I might suggest a trip to Iwan Ries, on Wabash, right under the Loop. It has been several years since I have been there, but smoking was allowed inside the shop, and if memory serves correctly, you could ask for a sample, and smoke it there.

    A good source for selling pipes on consignment is Pipestud. He is in Texas, and is a member, here. If you chose to smoke your dad's pipes, it would he a great way to honor him.

    The connection via the MBTA Orange Line to Back Bay station is very direct, but I would allo a good 45" between the two. If you were going, Peretti's is about a 15" walk from Back Bay station.
