    Thoughts on Smoking Indoors

    I remember smoking on planes,buses, in the grocery stores etc. That seems a little crazy these days but it was normal. I do miss being able to smoke indoors where it didn’t bother others. We even had a smoking area when I was in High School.

    Torch Lighter and Pipes

    I stick with my zippo pipe lighters. They work great in the wind. I have never noticed any taste imparted to the tobacco from the lighter fluid but I use zippo fluid. I suppose if you filled it with charcoal lighter fluid you would have some unpleasant taste but not with the zippo stuff.

    Well the meet up at Edwards in Tampa was a great success! There were only two of us but we managed to make an afternoon of it and made some new friends. Hopefully the rest of you guys can make it next time.

    I use a zippo most of the time but if I’m at home and out of the wind I will use wooden matches as I find you can get a better light by moving the match flame around the bowl. I really use to think people who purposely used matches were just picky but there is definitely something to it.

    I keep my knock around pipes in a rack and my nicer ones in a drawer. I also keep several corn cob pipes in a large Captain Black can on a shelf. By the way, that’s what I want my ashes put in when I die! ???

    Zippo for Pipes

    I use a zippo to light my pipe. The fuel it burns isn’t an issue because it’s pretty clean burning and the amount of time spent drawing it in is minimal. It works in the wind and it is a large soft flame so it covers a lot of area for a thorough light but isn’t too hot so as to cook the tobacco.

    Back in Lutz Florida!

    I’m a bit late to the party here but I just came across this thread. I live in Clearwater and would glad to meet up with anyone in this area. This time of year in Florida is a great time for our door venues. Even picnic shelters at local parks since there aren’t a lot of places for indoor smoking.

    Does anyone know if Lane is discontinuing their 12oz cans? It seems all I’m finding is the 7oz cans. It also seems that my favorite Captain Black Dark has gotten scarce.

    As I recall Holmes would leave his bits of dottle to dry on the mantle overnight. I think life is too short to worry about that little bit of dottle. Just knock it out and forget about it. It’s kind of like the butt of a cigar or cigarette.
