If You Could Visit any Pipe Shop...

I've been lucky enough to visit a few pipe shops, but there are a few I have on my bucket list. Tabaccheria Corti in Lecco is at the top. I dearly regret not visiting when we were in Lake Como last year. The Danish Pipe Shop would be next and that may still occur. The other is Alberto...

    Who is Kaj Nielsen?

I do see that and recall the KAJ pipes did not have a stem logo or marker, while every KAI did have a stem logo / marker. The more I ponder this I am leaning towards two different people.

    Who is Kaj Nielsen?

I hope Kai replies. Back when open, I had a few Kaj's and Kai's come through. While some of the stains where similar, the stem work around the button was different. Maybe earlier Kai's and he adjusted his button shaping later, or two different people. Can't wait to see what you find out.

What Pipe Brand Don’t You Own But Want To?

There are numerous carvers that I admire and would love to support. However most either do not offer the shape/s I collect. That being said ... there are two which I do have my sights set upon. A Peter Heeschen P shape, with an art amber stem, and a Hiro Totutomi blowfish.

    Who is Kaj Nielsen?

Kaj and Kai are two different pipe carvers. I've seen a few by Kaj, but also could not find any information. Maybe send an email to one of the site sponsors .... The Danish Pipe Shop. I am sure someone there can offer some information.

Does Retorting Ruin an Established Curing Process?

I'm with jpmcwjr .... always start with the least intrusive method. As far as the question .... IF you use a retort with an incorrect alcohol, or overdo the length you process the cleaning, you can go too far and need to re break in the pipe. I've always used a retort as the last method...

    Pipes With a Restrictive Draw

There is more at "play" when discussing how "restrictive" or how much "resistance" there is in any given pipe. IMHO "restrictive" refers to air passages through shank and or stem. While "resistance" refers towards how the pipe was packed and or the style and type of tobacco, combined with...

Suggestions for Trip to Castello’s and Lake Como?

I must have missed this when it first was posted. Lake Como is a gorgeous area. Getting Cantu ( to Castello ) is a quick taxi ride. It's also close to both Radice and Caminetto, in Cucciago. In Lecco, which is close you can also get to Tabbacharia Corti. I hope you had the chance to...

Pack Like Drinking Through a Straw?

And here lays the problem with Internet" information. What some have offered as a "beginning" point gets taken as "set in stone". I've probably said this far too many times. There is NO one way fit each different pipe enjoyer. There are far too many variables for a "one size fits all"...

What Does Abusing a Return Policy Look Like?

Ok. So Escudo or Peterson De Luxe Navy Rolls

I can't say there's a difference between the 2 in their current renditions. In the past there was a great difference. I suggest that both have gone through a variety of "alterations" through the various ownerships, due to crop variances, and leaf source variances. Jesse may be correct...

What Does Abusing a Return Policy Look Like?

IMHO it depends on seller and buyer. As a retired seller I did accept any and all returns, as long as the item was returned in the condition it was sent out. However .... IF ( and only IF ) the buyer had not read the description and asks to return an item because they did not read all the...

    Castello Pipes

Agreed, which is why every retailer should be listing pipe length, bowl height, chamber width, bowl depth, and weight. I can't say for everyone, but I'm a very picky little SOB when it comes to what I want for my collection, thus these are paramount to me. IF any one is not listed, I bypass...

    Castello Pipes

Ludwig, Castello pipes are graded in batches, as opposed to a "set chart" of size designations or past historical records of grains. When I visited the Castello workshop in 2019, I selected a group of pipes for the website. The smooth pipes were shown ungraded, which is the norm. After the...

    Castello Pipes

Yes and not exactly. For the non smooth pipes it's generally a size designation. For the smooth pipes it's more a combination of grain and size. You might find a larger smooth pipe graded lower than a small very well grained pipe.
