What Cigar are You Smoking? 2024

After a discouraging day at work, a Punch Clasico, some Four Roses Small Batch, and some Star Trek Clasico. I had one of these cigars in October, and detested it: no flavor, no aroma. I may have been getting a cold, though, because today’s is very nice. I may have to get some more.

    Hi from Cornwall England

Welcome from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where long ago Cornish miners came to seek their fortune, and gave us one of our most popular regional treats: the pasty.

What Cigar are You Smoking? 2024

Plain old Montecristo. Not a fan, but I wanted to try a “mild” cigar to see if I can get any flavor from one. Usually I find them unsmokably bland. This one isn’t the worst I’ve ever had: I get a little flavor at least. Nothing like the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro I had on Saturday, though.

    How to Maintain Adequate Taste.

I’m not the original poster here, but I’d like to thank you all for your responses. I have only been smoking pipes for 2 months or so, and your responses have helped me immensely in improving my pipe technique, and in understanding something that has always puzzled me. I have never smoked a...

    Pipe Sighting at the Movies

This evening I watched episode 7 of Fallout, and got to see a few seconds of Cooper Howard smoking a pipe on his couch (pre-war). I don’t have nearly enough experience to identify the pipe.

***What Are You Smoking, April 2024?***

Blood Red Moon in an Irwin’s 676 estate pipe on a balmy 46 degree evening. It’s a pleasant tobacco and always stays lit well for me.

    New Member From Michigan

Welcome from the UP! I started with cigars last fall, then thought “I’ll try pipes: that must be less complicated than cigars.” Ha ha ha: yes, I’m an idiot ;) Now I love them both!

Another welcome from Michigan (UP). My only pipe smoking friends are on this forum: good to have you here!

    Michigan Pipe Smokers

I'm looking forward to checking it out someday. With an 8 hour drive ahead, I unfortunately didn't have a chance to visit this time around. Plus I really don't need more pipe supplies and tobacco, at least to hear my wife tell it.

Indian River Tobacco Traders - Newaygo Michigan

I visited Indian River Tobacco Traders in Newaygo this past weekend. It's a small place, predominantly stocked with pot paraphernalia. They also have a small humidor in the back corner with some cigars I haven't seen at Wild Bill's. Pipe supplies are slim, of course. No tins, but they do...

    Michigan Pipe Smokers

I had time to visit Indian River TT in Newaygo on the way home after the funeral. It's a small place, but they do have about a dozen jars of bulk tobacco behind the register. I got some Haunted Bookshop, and one called "English Luxury", which may be the Peter Stokkebye blend. (They also have...

Comedic Legend Joe Flaherty is Dead at 82.

Loved him in SCTV. RIP Count Floyd ("Whispers of the Wolf" is still a must-watch).

    Hello from Upper Michigan

This morning I went out and tried an MM Legend full of Early Morning Pipe. I'd stayed away from it after reading some reviews reporting high nicotine levels, and wish I hadn't: EMP is some nice, tasty tobacco. I went out for some more after a stressful meeting at work this afternoon. I didn't...

    Michigan Pipe Smokers

Are there any good places for pipe tobacco in the Grand Rapids area? I'm coming down to Rockford this weekend for my dad's memorial service; if there are any good places to visit, I'll stop by (time permitting). I've already visited Indian River Tobacco Traders in Newaygo a few times this...

    Hello from Upper Michigan

Thanks! My sons went to NMU for a few years: it's both good and bad that it's within commuting distance, I guess. I'm glad that you get to come back and enjoy God's country when you can!

    New Smoker from Arkansas

Welcome from upper Michigan! I've recently started smoking pipes too, after about 6 months of cigars: I still love cigars, but really enjoy the flavors of pipe tobacco too. The shorter duration of my pipes makes it easier to enjoy right now too: 10-30 minutes is much easier than a 1.5 hour cigar.

    Hello from Upper Michigan

Entertaining indeed: Last week I read the thread on how to open a tobacco tin, and some of the responses had me laughing.

    Hello from Upper Michigan

I read about Lee Von Erck a few weeks ago, and checked out his site: he does such nice work! Negaunee is relatively close (about 30 minutes away). I live in Marquette county, so we go through Marinette to go to GB. We drove through Niagara and Iron Mtn many times when we were looking at...
