B&M Find: Radice Oil Cured & Twin Bore (info?)

The oil curing and twin bore ideas were suggested (pushed?) by R.D. Field onto Radice to rejuvenate and create excitement around the brand. I think this came around the time when he stopped importing the Ashton line. From talking to him, it seems to me he wanted another oil cured pipe in his...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

This is Mac Baren Navy Flake from 2004. Way back when, I found that this was Mark Tinsky's favorite blend. He was always looking for it, specially if aged. I didn't understand why, but went ahead and stockpiled it anyway. Well... Now I know. This is how I keep the tin after opening: a...

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

I like this Spydie a lot. It's one of those that is symmetrical when open. It is well built, but it also has a few negative aspects that make me think of it as one of the least stellar of the Spyderco models out there, at least among those that I know.

As some may have noticed, I like slip joints, especially if they are swaybacks. This particular one, from knife maker Bret Dowell, is starting to show some pocket wear.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

This time I have a tin of Robert McConnell Special London from 2008. Very good, if you're into mature VAs.

Spyderco Para 2 in carbon fiber and CPM S90V. This version was a limited run produced when the Para 2 was first released, way back when...

Phil retired a few years ago. I think he is not making knives anymore. His old web site (Web Server's Default Page - http://ptartistry.com/) is not active. I don't know how to get in touch with him, but his knives show up here and there occasionally. You may have to search the net to find one.

Well aged Wessex Burley Slice comes to mind...

Today I have another slip joint. This time is from knife maker Phil Tham using translucent G10 for scales.

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

It's one of Ed Schempp's models that was released in 2010. Don't know if it's still part of the catalog. It's called Balance because it is symmetrical when closed:

Visiting the office today and needed something very unthreatening and copacetic. Oh, those people...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

This is Three Nuns from the late 90s. It belongs to the batch of Three Nuns produced before the last one, which was in the early 2000s. The last batch was still very good, but declining, and I can understand why they stopped production. If I remember correctly, they could not find a suitable...

The swayback is my favorite traditional pattern. This one is a custom by Ken Coats in red micarta.

    Carter Hall Blending

Find yourself some bulk Virginia and mix it 50/50. You'll have your own version of Half and Half.

One of my first Spydercos, probably my first one, was this Paramilitary in CPM D2. They (Spyderco Factory Store) almost gave it to me because it wasn't selling well.

A slipjoint from Great Eastern Cutlery. The scales are wine colored Micarta, they came out too dark in the pic. I think this pattern is called a Cuban, but correct me if I'm wrong.

    Roll Call for Musicians!

I'm not a musician. Actually, I know nothing about playing music. But, in my free time, I like to hit the keys.

Was in a bit of a rush this morning, grabbed a random one from the Spyderco box and this is what came out :)

I got this one on a trip to Finland. What attracted me to it was having an Italian maker in a nordic country. The knife takes a keen edge and keeps it well, but I bought it as a souvenir, not as a working tool, therefore I don't use much.

I have no idea what it is. I bought the knife directly from the maker at a knife show, and all he told me about the knife was that it was made from a bowling ball. I didn't enquire any further. The steel is S30V. Wouldn't ebonite oxidize? This one didn't.
