My oldest and only 'White Spot'. From 1963 and not much older than me. Same goes for the watch.

Will Dunhill/White Spot Ever Go to Acrylic Stems

If White Spot changed their stems to acrylic, I would become even more nostalgic.

    Sometimes Ignorance is Bliss

It is also interesting nostalgia to reread tobacco reviews from 40 years ago in my old Danish pipe magazines, where sometimes a percepted decline in quality of some blends from some well regarded manufacturers, are discussed. Fortunately reviewers, like the late reviewer Harald Grut, also...

This Has to be a Joke.

This Has to be a Joke.

I have never before wished I owned a truck. Now I do. No wonder Ford has ceased taking reservations for their coming F-150 Lightning, since they will probably be unable to satisfy the demand for several years. Probably no democratic government will 'empty your tank' without a permit, while your...

This Has to be a Joke.

I have made several roadtrips in EVs. The answer is, that it takes as long as it takes to have a pee, a snack or a cup of coffee, every two or 3 hours. Unless you buy an older generation or a 'city car' EV, in which case you may have to stop for a pee more often.

Pipe(s) That You Will Never Smoke...

I have a few.. Also some very nice unsmoked/as new ones, that I bought about 15 and 5 years ago, but still haven't smoked. Not that there is anything wrong with them. I hope.

Gawith & Hoggarth Curly Cut Deluxe

Interesting review, thanks. Sounds almost as an OTC like Dark Twist (MB), still wet from casing, sourness and risk of bite..I guess you lucky ones can still get many of the other good, more pure, English made blends in Basel, since brexit has no local effect and they haven't overtaxed/'hidden'...

Tobaccos Like Peterson Deluxe Navy Rolls?

If you visit your neighbour country, try this: Big Coin, MOB by STG, who also produces the 'Peterson' version. By the way: the porcelain above is Swedish?

Short Smoke Breaks and Strong Tobacco

I am with you here, although I did not pack my pipe before going to work, nor did I crave the strongest tobacco. 5-10 min. smoking breaks was fine for me (and my boss). Capstan satisfied my craving and didn't taste that bad after relighting the same bowl several times. Still often smoking that...

Happy birthday Cosmic! I think you could and wish you would write a book about the life of a wise and entertaining pipe smoking gentleman.

    Thick vs Thin Chamber Wall

I just measured the thickness of the walls of some of my favorite pipes, including a Dunhill, a Georg Jensen and a Winslow. They were all only about 8-9 mm thick somewhat down the bowls. As I was already in 'measuring mode', I found the stem bites were all only about 4,5 mm thick.

How Many Tobaccos in Active Rotation?

In the beginning of my pipe smoking career, I had to try almost all the different pipe tobaccos, despite no internet forums existed then. But later and during many years, I usually had only one tin (Capstan) open at a time and I only bought another tin, when I ran out of tobacco. Sometimes I...

Ever Think your Taste Buds Must be Wrong?

For me, it takes a lot of time to know a blend. The taste and enjoyment of a particular bowl depends on so many factors. I have known people who could blind test wine off the bat and often guess correctly about origin/year. Not me. Remember once I tasted a fine wine before dinner and found...

    It Stinks To Be Here

Or Denmark? Some of Angel (origin of 'Anglos', whose new territory/colony was named A(E)ngland), is German, since 1864... The rest is still Danish and the area where I live in Denmark. And I am still happy to be Danish, ha ha. The Danes later 'travelled' to and settled in the Anglo-Saxons'...

Any Loss/decrease in Taste or Smell due to Pipe Smoking?

Yes, my sense of smell is severely reduced by pipe smoking, depending upon how much I smoke, of course. But cigarettes, which I quit smoking many years ago, were just as effective at reducing the sense of smell, as far as I remember. Common knowledge, I suppose.

Average Life Expectancy of a Pipe

I only remember having tossed pipes many years ago, that I bought from new, when the stems were chewed up. After about maybe 1000+ bowls. I unfortunately didn't consider getting stem replacements then, despite those being among my favorite pipes. If I had bought stem replacements, those mediocre...

    What was Once Foul...Royal Yacht

I am a little late to trying Royal Yacht and guess the mentioning of the plum topping kept me away for so many years, since I usually stay away from 'aromatics'. Now I am half way through a tin of Peterson RY and I must say I really like Royal Yacht. With coffee, tea or redwine and in various...
