Rattray's Brown Clunee in the Peterson Dracula 221. This pipe was on the scrap row, nearly binned it owing to issues. The tenon fit snug as new, but the briar began to shrink and the stem got loose quite quickly. It was often 50/50 if the bowl would fall off mid smoke, many a dink in the finish as a result. The join leaked, the pipe gurgled from the charring light onward, it was wretched.
However, today I checked the price (about €130?) and decided it worthy of a go at fixing. I redrilled the draught hole, wiggled the drill to flare it at the mortise end, then wrapped a layer of PTFE thread tape round the tenon. Voila! Different animal. Second test run here, will pull apart after and see if the tape will be high maintenance.
