I have received estate pipes which looked pristine, with well-reamed chambers.
The shanks were sewers that had never been, or only minimally cleaned.
Most vendors do not spend enough time cleaning shanks and mortises, in my experience.

Almost always smoke on the front verandah, which is enclosed on 3 sides. So, pretty well sheltered unless it is blowing a gale.
Sydney, Oz has a temperate climate, so I pretty much smoke whatever blend takes my fancy on the day, all year round.

You’d get a pretty good idea of current prices
Of course prices will depend on condition, number of bidders and the vendor.
You generally pay a premium for pieces from certain vendors because of their reputation and presentation
