I’m from the UK (London) and have been smoking pipes on and off for about 10 years. My pipe smoking is a bit limited since I am only allowed to smoke at home occasionally, and I am too chicken to go public :-(- karibo

Is a Zippo Pipe Insert Really Better?
I have both. For me, I prefer the normal style since I find it easier to do the initial light using that. For relighting, the pipe one might work slightly better.- karibo

Coming Out of the Piper Closet!
In my head I walk around with a pipe in my mouth when out and about. In reality on the few occasions I try I just feel embarrassed and keep checking if people see me and if they react :( Cigarettes on the other hand I give no thought to.- karibo

Problems with Meerschaum
I had two meerschaums that I ended up throwing away until I found my current one (Rattray's White Goddess). The issue with the previous ones was that the draw was way too narrow, so I had to suck really hard to keep it going, burning my mouth in the process.- karibo

Flake Does Not Stay Lit; Goes Out Every Minute!
I dry, rub out and possibly dry some more. In my experience the whole flake can seem pretty dry but is quite moist once rubbed out- karibo

Do You Move The Flame Around When Lighting?
Yes, I try to get the whole top layer lit - at least for the initial lights. Later on in the bowl when relighting, not so much since it seems to 'take' easier- karibo
