Drinks that pair with English blends?

I’ve noticed a stout or porter works well with English blends. The sweetness cuts some of the smoke & the roasted malts of the beer play well with the Lat. You can also scale up depending on the ratio of Latakia. For example, Squadron Leader or Westminster=Porter, MM965=Stout, Pirate...

    Midnight Christmas Eve

I’ve always enjoyed the small hours of night, especially at Christmas time. It started when I was a teenager, sneaking a cigarette after midnight mass when everyone else had gone to bed. I kept up the practice as I got older. There’s just a feeling of peace at that time of the year. A few times...

    New Rossi En Route

I was looking for a Ropp & ended up with a Rossi. I love the look of the Ropp cutty & they were all gone by the time I decided to pull the trigger. I asked Marty at Pulver’s Prior Briar if he had anything like that & he had some options for me. The pipe I ended up with is a Piccolo cutty that is...

    Who's Still Enjoying Churchwardens?

I have a Boswell but it doesn’t get as much use as it should. It took me a while to find a blend that I enjoy in it. Turns out, it’s aromatics, which I don’t smoke often. I might try experimenting with it again though.

Yazoo Witch from The Country Squire

They have the story behind the name on their site. It’s quite the legend

Yazoo Witch from The Country Squire

I had the same reaction to Old Fashioned. A friend picked some up for me when he went up for their Father’s Day event. I tried a few bowls & wasn’t that impressed. Tried it again after 2-3 weeks in a jar & it was so much better. Now I don’t want to be without it, so I got a couple of ounces...

Yazoo Witch from The Country Squire

Yazoo Witch went on sale today. It’s a new one for me but I figured “What the hell?” & grabbed some. I needed to re-up on Old Fashioned anyway. Now we play the waiting game. It sounds interesting; stoved VA, DFK, Turkish, Lat, Perique & aged in whiskey barrels. The barrel aging seems like a new...

How Do You Pick Your Next Smoke?

Depending on the day, it’ll either start with John Marr, Poplar Camp, Pegasus, or the leftovers in my drying tray from last night. These are my “on my way to work” smoke. I’ll smoke whatever is in my pouch, which is usually one of the 3 blends mentioned above, on my way home. Then after I’ve...

    Vapers? Hmm.. Yes!

C&D’s Poplar Camp is a very nice Va/Per with a touch of black cav. I prefer it to Bayou Morning & it’s available in bulk. CRF/P is great but it’s only available about once every 2 years so enjoy it while you can.

How Do You Organize Your Tobacco Cellar?

I ended up getting a roll top desk. 1 drawer for jarred Va & Va/per, one for English, one for Aros or flavored, one for misc or larger jars(the bottom 2 drawers are pretty deep). On top, I’ve got unopened tins of blends I haven’t tried on the left. On the right, unopened tins of stuff I’ve tried...

    Issue Smoking Flakes

I’ve given this method a try with a couple of bowls & it could be psychosomatic, but I’ve noticed a difference. I’m getting more flavor & a better burn.

    Wilke

I got some Wilkie 193(if I’m remembering correctly) & it’s a very mellow English. I believe it has their proprietary Royal Scot in the mix. Not quite an areo, but just noticeable enough to keep things interesting.

    Best affordable pipes?

I’ve been eyeing the Ropp Vintage line. Old briar, horn stems & for less than a bill? What’s not to love? +1 for Rossi. If you’re not adverse to estates, you can usually find Algerian briar pipes for a song. Sometimes even unsmoked ones.

    Switching from cigarettes

Congratulations & good luck on your journey. I made the switch 3 years ago. If you’re looking for blends with a lighter nicotine content, I’d recommend trying stuff with a good bit of black cavendish in them. A lot of blend descriptions & reviews also mention the strength of the nic hit. Aros...

    Devil Anse Pipes?

Check out jaydag92 on eBay. I got the CWA Danish stain last year for Christmas. It’s a great pipe for on the go & a good size for a quick smoke
