    Hello From Louisiana

Welcome from New Orleans! If you live in the area, & weren’t already aware, there’s a pipe club that meets the 3rd Thursday of every month at Mayan Imports in Metairie. You can check out New Orleans Pipe club on Facebook if you’re interested in coming to a meeting & get the details. Welcome!

    A Trip to New Orleans

Glad you had a great time & were able to enjoy the amazing food down here. The pipe club meets the 3rd Thursday of every month, but if your next trip doesn’t coincide with that, DM the club page on fb & one of us can probably meet you for a smoke.

    Any Homebrewers Around?

I used to home brew & now do it professionally. I still have my set up, but haven’t used it lately because the house we’re in doesn’t have a 220v outlet. My kegerator died a while back as well & I loathe bottling. Good for you making a Christmas beer for your family to enjoy! I love when you...

    Looking for a New Knife

I’ve had Case knives in the past & really like them. I was browsing their site today actually. I’ll take a look at the other 2. Thanks!

    Looking for a New Knife

I lost my pocket knife, a gifted Gerber, & I’m looking to upgrade a little. The Gerber was fairly cheap & didn’t hold an edge, but it was trim & was fine for most things. I’m debating on whether I want a single blade that clips in my pocket or one with a few more blades that I can use for...

    Dark Fired Kentucky

A couple of great blends featuring DFK: GL Pease-Six Pence & Montgomery. SP is a much bolder blend, while Montgomery is more sweet & bright. Macbarren: Dark Twist Roll Cake & HH Old Dark Fired. DT is VA coins & VA/DFK coins. For every 2 VA coins, they add 1 of the VA/DFK. They’re topped with...

    Marxman badge

I just acquired this sexy Marxman Jumbo. Any idea where I can find a replacement badge/logo? Additionally, if @Briar Lee or any other resident Marxman scholar wants to take me to school about this beauty’s history, I’m all ears. Thanks!

Need Enlightenment on "Black Frigate" tobacco.

If you feel like buying bulk & can get it shipped to you, I’ve found C&D’s Poplar Camp to be more to my tastes than Bayou Morning. Mountain Camp is pretty fantastic as well. It’s supposed to be Bayou Night with the proportions of the Perique & Lat reversed, so it more Lat forward. +1 for Joie de...

    Zippo Pipe Lighters...Opinions Please!

I’ve almost always had a Zippo in my pocket since I was 15. Reliable, durable, affordable, & iconic. I keep a Bic handy for when I neglect to fill it, but otherwise it’s all I use. It’s a good idea to let the flame burn off the vapor before putting it to your tobacco, but they simply can not be...

    Lack of Respect for Sutliff?

Crème brûlée is one of the first tobaccos I tried & throughly enjoyed. I was about 2 weeks in to pipe smoking & it was goopy & gurgling(my fault, not the tobacco’s) but, after some time on this forum & preparing it properly, it was probably my first good smoke. I do find most of their aros a...

Pipe Tobacco Recommendations for Camel Non-filter Smoker

You might try finding a shag cut tobacco, like GLP Penny Farthing. If it doesn’t work for you in a pipe, you can roll it in a paper. Anything with Dark Fired KY will scratch the cigarette itch as well(at least for me, it does). GLP Six Pence & Mac Barren Dark Twist Roll Cake are 2 of my...

    Crepe Myrtles

They’re all over the place down here & I’m not allergic so I love their blooms

Hey, Anyone Heard of C&Ds "Mad Fiddler"

I enjoy it. The Va’s & perique play nicely with the kasturi. Full body without being overweight, if that makes sense. I’m guessing it’s topped with something wine-like but thankfully not as heavily as Visions of Celephais. I could be wrong but that’s what I pick up. Definitely worth trying

    Folding And Stuffing Flakes

I’ve tried both & prefer to dry & rub out flakes. Especially if it’s a more complex blend. It seems I get more nuanced flavors & it burns more evenly with fewer relights. Oddly enough, trying both methods with 1792 is what convinced me to rub out flakes. It was night & day.

    Mac Baren Dark Twist

I won a tin in a raffle at our last pipe club meeting. It was from 2019 & man is it tasty! It says it’s topped with maple sugar but it tastes more like molasses. Definitely a sleeper but glad I tried it

The Matrix is Designed so that Everyone Sees a Clue

I live in Louisiana. We eat everything here. Shrimp, crab, oysters, crawfish, possum, nutria, gator, snake. If it doesn’t eat us first, we eat it. TBH, I’ve never had possum or nutria but I eat everything else mentioned on the regular. Most of the shellfish are a great way to get a protein...

    What's up from Louisiana

Prodigal Son Returns to the Fold

in I’m not certain I can explain it. The P-lip draws & sits in your mouth a little differently. I haven’t tried OD but it looks like an English blend with a light topping of something (they don’t say what exactly). Navy Rolls is good though, especially if you can get some age on them. I find...

Prodigal Son Returns to the Fold

Welcome from New Orleans! I hope you’re enjoying every puff. Not sure what tobacco is available in your area but Rattray’s Sterling Flake is a nice, hearty Lakeland. I have a couple of Peterson & Savinelli/Rossi pipes. All great smokers. Especially the Rossi 8606 bent billiard. Rossi is made by...
