I remember when it was the Berenstein Bears...

I was around 12 or 13 and remember looking up the beer stein in our encyclopedia as my mother had made one in her ceramics class. I noticed then that the Stein was the same spelling as the bears. There was always folks that pronounced it as steen and since it was spelled the same as the beer Stein I was convinced that it should be pronounced the same way as the beer Stein. Weird 🤷🏼‍♂️

In Germany the ei is pronounced like it is in line and the ie is pronounced like it is in mean. In America both are pronounced however the person who bears the name says it is.

I remember when my mom would give me cash to go to the grocery store to buy her cigarettes and some candy for myself. It was a 15 minutes walk from home and I was 10 years old. It was safe, and there was just a common sense understanding that those cigarettes were not meant for me, so no questions asked.
Back in the late 40’s my Mother would make a list on a piece of paper and wrap either some quarters or $ bill in it and I would carry it up to the corner, down the street to the small grocery on the corner, walk in and hand it to the lady at the counter, she knew who I was. She would put the items in a bag wrap the change in the note and I would return home. Everyone on the street knew who I was and where I lived and there was never an issue……. sure do miss those days.

The movie Christmas Story exemplifies my early childhood,

It seems to me this is such a huge shared experience.
This feeling of lost innocence, or spoiled paradise.
The things lost in exchange of technology, information and connectivity.
I miss the past and how naive we were.
I miss watching "Nightmare on Elm Street" and actually being scared of it.

Sometimes I wonder if my parents or their parents experienced this nostalgia with such intensity as they were getting older.

Same except I wasn’t really buying for my mom, I started smoking very early so they were for me.

I didn’t need a note, just telling the clerk they were for mom was plenty. 🥸
