I continually find it hilarious that self-appointed leaders on another board that I frequent cling rather vocally to the delusion that current-production Peterson Elizabethan Match is superior to Sutliff Match Victorian, when it is so obvious that SMV blows the current EM out of the water. Some pipers, man...

I recently had a few bowls of some Peterson Elizabethan Mixture from 2019 and I have to say they were quite delightful. Not overly sweet, light vinegar with some dark fruit and caramel notes, pretty smooth too. I was shocked by this since the last time I smoked it I dont remember experiencing these flavors at all. Not sure if quality has declined since then but what I have is good. I have a few ounces of the match as well and I like that stuff but it doesn't taste like that.

Other than that, as far as VaPers go, I've been enjoying some Marlin Flake and Sillem's Councilor 1695.

Some runners up that have Virginias and Perique but also some Kentucky are Wessex Sovereign and Rattrays Old Gowrie. I like to call these "dirty VaPers" since they contain dfk.

My Sutliff Match Victorian is from early 2019 if not before (got a 1lb factory-sealed bag via tinbids last year, before tinbids went insane), and it is incredibly chocolatey and fruity, something I've never experienced with the Peterson EM. I'll confess all of the Pete EM that I've ever smoked has been newer than my Sutliff MV, so it's not apples-to-apples, as a bit of age can do wonderful things to well-blended Virginias, as we have seen so many times.

I like the Peterson blend. When I bought the Sutliff match in 2023 or so, it was very wet and chemically. I jarred it since then and should revisit soon.

Do like my Bayou Morning. But, find I like Old Joe Krantz just a tad more. Tend to alternate buying them. Don't seem to buy a blend that doesn't have perique in it.
Yeah that’s me with bayou morning and haunted bookshop. Just loaded up on more of both with the 20% off sale on sp rn. I still haven’t tried ojk original. Still working through the blue label I have and it’s good but nothing I get excited about.

SG St. James Flake and Plug, medium strength, plumy taste.
Escudo Navy De Luxe, medium strength, plumy taste.
Germain's Royal Jersey Perique Mixture medium/strong strength, peppery taste.
Those are my go to.
Also anything McClelland, they had amazing Va/Pers.

I really like Suliff Match Victorian, so much so I find no need to smoke Elizabethan. If I had to live with one type of tobacco it would be a vaper.

Match Victorian or Elizabethan? Or you find no difference?
I believe they are the same just curious if you have very aged match you are referring to.

I was under the impression that TPcom labelled Elizabethan match and SPcom Match Victorian were both the same critter
I think they were. That is what I was saying.
Was curious if you were thinking Victorian match was better than Elizabethan match.

Copy. I’m sure they’re the same as I’ve had and loved both (the bulks).
I think of STG’s Peterson’s/Dunhill Elizabethan mixture when I hear “Elizabethan” these days-that’s the one I couldn’t abide.

That STG is pretty rough right out of the tin to me.
