By the way, how are the 3 part C stems as far as bite zone thickness and resilience to oxidization?
Comoy's stems are "clicky" and they have a thin button (and for me, the reasons they are most comfortable to smoke). If you are a hard clencher, they will crack eventually.

Oxidation - better than most British brands of the era.

Recent acquisition, a Royal Comoys, circa 40's-50's, from my research. It has a replacement stem, and the shape # is 342, about a group 5, and no stinger, plus it's a US Patent. Looks like a flake pipe.

Here's my first Comoy's-stamped briar, an estate Tradition pot, Shape 126, which I recently purchased from the Forums' ssjones. This pipe is pre-Cadogan production and features the three-part "C" logo in the stem. Once the temperature here in Dogtown gets above freezing I am looking forward to giving it its baptism by fire!

This pipe joins five Comoy's seconds in my collection: two Guildhalls, one Everyman, one Townhall, and one Royal Coachman. All are good smokers, and I expect the Tradition to be the same.

The images shown below are two from ssjones' sale post:

Beautiful pipe, Hunter. Comoys are among my favorites of the English made pipes. I too have gotten a couple from Alan.

Choatecav:

Thank-you!

Up until this purchase, all of the major British marques (with the exception of a branded Comoy's) were represented in my collection. Based upon the solid performance of my Comoy's seconds I knew that I wanted one, but only this touched all of the requisite bases.

I just waxed the Select 126 pot (referenced above in this thread) that I purchased from ssjones. What is it about their briar and/or its finishing that makes it react so well to carnauba? The grain simply pops and is glowingly gorgeous!

As a newcomer, I have a question regarding this thread.

Would Comoy's Guildhall and Comoy's Everyman pipes be posted here, or elsewhere, or is this thread just Comoy first-line exclusively?

I have a bunch of them (something like 18 or 19) from the '50s and '60s, and since both product lines did appear in the Comoy's catalogs and share the same shape numbers, and some even have Comoy's logo stamp as well as the Guildhall logo stamp, I'd like to know what would be acceptable. All of mine have the three-silver-bar stem logo (which I've always thought looked cooler and more "atomic age" by design), instead of the Comoy "C".

Thanks in advance.

They are Comoy’s, so yes, they are welcome.

As are these two “seconds” - a Straight Grain and a Select Straight Grain - not accorded the Comoy stamp on the stummel nor stem

Thanks for the confirmation.

I need to do a bit of de-ox cleanup work on some of them before taking pics, but I'll likely be posting a few groups in short order.

Ok at this point I am 100% convinced that Iam cursed when it comes to Comoy pipes… in the span of just two weeks, I’ve bought 3 Comoys from reputable restorers/traders, just to end up either 3 pipes with hidden major issues…. The last army, I posted I think on another thread, ended up having a cracked bowl on closer inspection. Today I just received a blue riband with weird rustication patch on the bottom and guess what - a full on hole repair…. It was done well but wouldn’t people just be honest about it, instead they chose to say three times in the item description that you buy what you see and as is… I will never get a normal Comoy at this rate…IMG_7758.jpegIMG_7759.jpegIMG_7760.jpegIMG_7761.jpegIMG_7762.jpegIMG_7763.jpegIMG_7764.jpeg

Did the seller show that patch on the bottom in his listing? I don't think a Blue Riband would ever have any rustication on it. If he didn't show it in his listing I'd fight that one. It's worth about $20 bucks in that condition,IMO.
