Absolutely stunning pipe whose new owner paid through the nose for it.This library 1887 cased BBB pipe went for a very good price. As an interesting side note, the sterling was made by Barling, who did BBB's silver work in the 1880's before BBB set up its own smithy. Condition is exceptional.

Yes…yes, they did. Came in at about the top of the range I’d predicted.Absolutely stunning pipe whose new owner paid through the nose for it.![]()
I don’t know enough at answer your question, but I do know that is some very nice grain. It just called to me. I am putting myself out there. I think I paid ok/fair money given the market. Thoughts?

1977 GBD MILLENNIUM HORRY JAMESON CARVED HUGE FREEEHAND (Sorry for caps. it's the auction title.)
Totally agree. I have seen unique's go for this amount, but none of them looked as good as this pipe. I have seen many pipes for more $ that were less. lolI don’t know enough at answer your question, but I do know that is some very nice grain.
I missed that one completely. Wow, what a pipe. Sometimes those Uniques are too over the top, yours looks perfect. I don't recall seeing any GBD with an 18k gold band nor any other Millennium stamped pipes. That is top dollar for a GBD, but I doubt you'll ever find another one.It just called to me. I am putting myself out there. I think I paid ok/fair money given the market. Thoughts?

I believe those were just stamped 'Hand Made'. There has always been confusion because Peterson has a 'Hand Made' line of pipes that are almost certainly NOT hand made. But it could be that those are also stamped 'Special'.I seem to vaguely recall a reference to specials being handmade pipes given by certain of Peterson’s master pipemakers to guests during tours?
Yeah, my house pipe is stamped hand-made but recall a Mark Irwin post talking about how house pipes are stamped with that when they're not actually hand-made with no idea why they do that.I believe those were just stamped 'Hand Made'. There is another line of Petersons stamped 'Special' in cursive/italic that were a short-lived line of pipes.
You may call me a philistine, but I prefer the look of Pipe #2 with its incorrect tapered stem sans P-lip
