I'd love to have a go at this one, but just too many horrific possibilities.Yep, someone came to their senses when they saw the giant crack and now relisted at $89 BIN (and crack now mentioned)
mental retardation, a JET / Torch lighter, and a quest to "smoke the tobacco completely to the heel"How the heck can one burn a pipe that far?

We don't have a definitive answer to your question, but the current thought is that 'special' indicates a 'special' run. This pipe fits the bill, as it's not a normal Peterson. I have two with the 'special' stamp - each has something unusual about it. So does 'special' mean ONE special pipe for one customer? Or a special run of a group of pipes? I don't think anyone knows for sure.Any idea what a System Soecial is? I can't find any reference

I seem to vaguely recall a reference to specials being handmade pipes given by certain of Peterson’s master pipemakers to guests during tours? We don't have a definitive answer to your question, but the current thought is that 'special' indicates a 'special' run.
