One of his pipes is the reason I got into pipe smoking. I was wandering around a cigar shop when I stumbled upon a stunning paneled pipe. I went down the pipe-smoking rabbit hole. Now here I am haha He has excellent craftsmanship, especially at the price. Sad but happy, he was able to do what he loved for so long.

I guess I’m surprised he doesn’t have an apprentice to take over.
seems like with the Nordic pipe makers that often apprentices often strike out on their own and proudly list their mentor. Seems like it's just probably how craftsmen work there. Like no matter how large a company like that gets its still viewed like a smaller craftsmen's workshop. The exception seems to be if it's family. So it wouldn't surprise me if there are a few people that suddenly start selling pipes that aren't Nording but clearly take big cues from them.

Some years ago I purchased a beautiful red Nording freehand pipe with plateau on top, and a glass-like finish to the briar. Unfortunately, I never could make the pipe smoke well for me and eventually traded it with a tobacconist for a pristine estate Dunhill Root Briar Group Four billiard with fishtail bit, which I still have.

Still, I am sorry to read that he is leaving the business. According to his Website, "Erik Nørding has probably produced more freehand pipes than any other pipe-maker."

First ive seem it and I’m online a lot 😂

LOL, won't speculate on where you're looking in. ;)

It's been out there since last spring - if you follow the Hunting Pipe line or Nording Pipes or check out the Danish Pipe Shop, they were mentioning it back then, as some did here and since. I learned it reading about "The Badger", which came out about six months earlier than the usual Hunting Pipe release - Danish Pipe Shop had/has a nice writeup in a general way as well.

Seems like the "internet" just "discovered" this in the last couple of days in terms of it becoming a thing on some pipe forums and elsewhere - so I guess now more will know.
