They are probably rubber coated metal springs, not solid rubber.

Meaning, unless the rubber is crumbling/cracking OFF the metal, they're as good as new.

(If they are solid rubber, definitely check their sproingy-ness & etc before using)
I'll look them over tomorrow. Since the dingus is about 90 years old, I would expect that any rubber coating will be pretty iffy. In the event that that is the case, do you have any suggestions about possibly re-coating the metal?

Easier and safer for your pipes would be to replace them with new ones (keeping the originals in a drawer, of course). A single screw is all that holds them on. Even Satchel could do it.

One search found these white ones for a dollar each. Look a bit deeper and I'm sure black-coated ones are out there.

Every boy needs his toys. This one arrived today, a revolving tobacconist's display case for Barling pipes. Solid quarter sawn oak, brass fittings, 16" x 16" x 32", weighs about 60 lbs.

Now, where to place the damned thing...

I had never seen a Barling showcase from that era, it is truly magnificent, my sincere congratulations to you.

Of the two, Ms. Taylor actually had a connection (albeit tenuous) to this cabinet, as she was born in London.

sablebrush52:

Ms. Taylor's father, Francis Lenn Taylor, once ran an art gallery in The Beverly Hills Hotel.

How many Barling pipes do you own that could have been displayed in this thing?

I always wanted to find something like this for Wade pipes but, understandably, I've never even seen such a thing. But this little display case, which I assume was intended for perfumes or a glass menagerie, cost $5 at the Salvation Army.
