All of the HU stuff is very different now. I think the stuff we get through Laudisi is pretty good/ better than most but not the Same animal at all. Pre 2020 Flanagan and Nyala are my favorite

As my signature would suggest, big perique fan, used to love Director's Cut, but the taste has shifted so much towards a stronger nuttier taste.

A jar of 2012 Elizabethan Mixture is coming back strong into my rotation.

Directors cut, yes it's new. The presentation reminds me of Peter Heinrichs special curly. With that being said, they smell nothing alike. Yes, I will be dancing a flame above this sublime smelling mixture directly 😋.

This evening I went through my cellar of unopened tins, exploring, reorganizing and labeling. I found some surprises buried in there, not the least of which were about a dozen tins of 2019 Sutliff Cringle Flake and a tin of 2015 Dunhill Three Year Matured Virginia. But, those are not the subject today.

I found two tins of 2019 Solani Aged Burley Flake, from before the blend was changed. Cracked one open just now and about to go enjoy a bowl of it. Strong tin notes of vinegar and fruit, a little cocoa. Aromas that I'm not used to smelling from burley blends. Really excited for this one.

C&D Burley Flake #5 from 2021. This is my first time trying this blend or any from the Burley Flake series. First aromas from tin surprised me being so sweet and fruity. I'll leave this until tomorrow and fire up a pipefulView attachment 422780View attachment 422781View attachment 422782View attachment 422783View attachment 422784
Love the series, although #5 is the one I haven't tried

That one's flavored a bit with something. I forget- maple?

Please let us know how you like it, and how strong you find the flavoring

*I like aging mine, too. Smoking some 6 year #2 right now

Davidoff Royalty from 2009 or 2010. This was back when I wasn't bothering to date my tins. I bought a 5 pack in either 2009 or 2010. These were among the last tins with painted tops instead of stickers.

Some old timers have told me that back in the day, Royalty was in high demand, hard to find, unicornish even.

Was that the case when you put these away?

Figured it’s about time to pop a new Xmas Cheer..
This tin from 2009 has a substantial degree of puffiness- more than I’ve ever seen on a McClelland tin.
2009 Xmas Cheer is a vintage that I’ve never smoked so far (changing soon obviously).
The paper work reads, “This 2009 blend is made with a special selection of beautiful, sugary, deep orange South Carolina Border Belt flue cured Va from the 2003 crop..”.

Opening this tin should be a completely satisfying aural experience for my ears, nose, eyes, and taste buds!
I do wish I could share it with (most of) you!

And if you care to watch it being opened-

I apologize, there’s no smell attached to the video.

10 year old Samuel Gawith Commonwealth Full Strength Mixture, opened yesterday. The Virginias have gotten sweet and the Lat doesn’t have a hint of sharpness, just smoky luxuriousness.
Haven’t smoked SG Commonwealth — that signature Samuel Gawith mixture — in quite a while. It’s nearly impossible to find these days. I remember its rich, full-bodied character and the perfectly balanced harmony of Virginia and Latakia — a true classic from the old days.

"and will age with distinction" is interesting to see. That would at least suggest aging tins was commercially being proposed at least back to 2009.
