On a related note.....
Have you ever entered a paddock of donkeys, mules, horses, and goats with a bucket of apples?
I might rather face the sabertooth!
Made me think about a saying an old friend of mine had..... "I'd rather run through hell with gasoline drawers...."

I'm cautious just walking out in the pasture with a pocketful of treats.

This is why the BMI chart is only good for some people. I have a friend who by the reading of the BMI chart is morbidly obese. He is 5'11" 310 pounds. But his body fat is <7%. He has muscles I honestly believe I dont have. :)
He has been body building for about 34 years, and at 54 years old, still has <7% body fat...absolute beast.
And NO, its not "natural". He's been juiced for 30 years. :(
As to the OP, a "Mediterranean diet" can be a very useful method of losing weight. Just stay away from all the GOOD Mediterranean food....breads and sweets. :)
If you seriously watch your carbs, you can eat as much beef as you want...as long as your heart is good. Honestly if you cut out sugar, bread, pasta, rice, and other carbohydrates, pounds will fall off. Humans weren't meant to eat sugar and grains like we do today.
We have only been eating grain heavy diets for about 10,000-12,000 years. Before that the majority of humans ate a "Paleo" diet....meat, fruits, nuts, and wild vegetables. Obesity was not a thing back then.
Sadly all that “juicing” is more than likely going to catch up to him.

I used to weight lift a long time ago and appreciated watching my body develop. I never aspired to be a serious weight lifter though. Even though it isn’t fat, muscle does weigh a lot and I feel that having too much muscle will strain the heart.

But I’m not here to shit on anyone’s joy. If a person wants to be a roused up meathead, who am I to stop him. As long as they look like Macho Man that is.

Muscle is a great strain on the heart. Most body builders have HBP.
And yes, the juice is not great.
My friend is pretty healthy for having taken steroids for 30+ years, but he knows what its doing to him. He tried going natural for a few years, but lost about 20 pounds of muscle and gained body fat. He's much happier being jacked, even with the fact it could kill him. To each their own.

And don't forget those hinge-y things. Joints, think they're called.

Years of high body weight plus tons of lifted weight equals this:

Since my insurance is picky about Zepbound my doctor and I spoke about going on the Mediterranean diet. It has all the foods I like and I can still have beef sparingly. He also told me to drop the weightlifting and focus on aerobic exercise. He and the calipers said I have a lot of muscle mass and that is where my weight is coming from.
I’m a strength/resistance trading + plus minimal aerobics guy lately, and I love the method. I am also at an ideal body weight for height, so I suppose I can afford that.

My only recommendation is to do lots of walking (45 minutes every day aiming for 8-10k steps a day), with some incline walking and/or with a weighted vest. You’ll be amazed at the results when paired with your new diet.

Whatever you ended up doing, good luck and good on you for taking your health seriously!

Body building is often very abusive to the human body.
Ronnie Coleman obviously pushed things too far.

Oppositely:

Mark Felix, professional Strongman, was 57 years old at his last entry to the World's Strongest Man competition.
And he still competes in strength sports at 59.

Weightlifting in moderation can only extend your lifespan.
People who take it to the extreme are harming themselves, but if you perform the movements carefully and only push to 90% of your maximum regularly there will only be positive effects.

any extra weight muscle or fat isn't great for ones health. The difference is that if it's muscle you've probably done other things that counteract somewhat that issue. But every body of weight from either increase the amount of blood vessels needed to circulate blood. At least if it's muscle you've also helped your heart get more exercise but it still needs to work as hard to get the blood around your body. Weight puts stress on the body too. Not saying it's the same thing but if you're going for over all health and longevity there is an advantage of being leaner.

Like a lot of things in this world. It's all about what a person wants and cares about. But they should be aware of what the costs are, what they are risking.

Were we ever talking about muscle mass being the issue here?
God I hope not. That shouldn't even be an issue, I don't know why anybody here would argue against it. A "good" problem to have, especially for the OP considering he is an amputee. The fat will come off eventually but for Christ's sake I wouldn't be cutting back on the weight training or wanting to achieve less hypertrophy.

You can have a very healthy and GREAT tasting diet by eating fish, beef and chicken, fruits and vegetables. Its nearly impossible to become obese eating any amount of these things.....and cheese.....dont leave the cheese out. :)
My sister worked with a woman who was on that wieght watchers thing. The woman thought that because fruit was a zero point item, she could live on just fruit at work. Turns out eating perhaps 3 pounds of fruit a day made her gain 20# on her in a month.

Alot of fruit is just sugar. If it wasnt full of sugar it wouldnt ferment. And no one would touch juice.

Fruit has fiber, vitamins and minerals, as well as slower absorbing sugars versus added, processed sugar.
You need carbohydrates in your diet, and fruit, in moderation, is a great way to get them.
And fruit is NOT "just sugar"....at all.
To varying degrees fruits have fiber, micro and macro nutrients, including good fats and amino acids. Fruit can help level blood sugar and give longer lasting energy than a Snickers.
Many packaged fruit juices have added sugar. Fruit juices in general aren't great for you, they lack the fiber of whole fruit.
The higher the fiber, the less the carbohydrates matter. Fiber holds a lot of the sugar from foods, and is released with waste.
Many tribal people have lived off fruit and a small amount of meats for centuries. Obesity and diabetes are not even a thing in many of these cultures. But again, everything in moderation.

@Sig

What is it that makes sugar from fruits different from the dreaded "added sugar?"
Fiber kind of anchors the absorption of sugars/fats in your body and pretty much acts as a stabilizer.

That's why sugar without the fiber is not ideal as well as fruit juice without the pulp is also not ideal. Eating a piece of fruit > drinking fruit juice.

I'm not fat. 5' 10" 150 lbs. However, the beer belly I got in junior high isn't going anywhere. Yes, it's from drinking beer.
