Here is a tin of St. James Flake from the recent batch at smokingpipes.com. I bought two tins to see if it’s a cellar-worthy blend. I’ve only had two bowls so far so it’s too early to say.

Here’s the second tin of St. James Flake 9 months after opening the first. I used the same location and lighting for the pics. It looks a little darker and smells much better than the first tin. The first tin smelled and tasted like rotting grass clippings upon opening. This improved after letting it try out. Once dry the flavor improved but was dominated by a strong, almost artificial, cinnamon flavor very similar to Red Hots candy. Not sure if this was the Perique or some Gawith sauce.

This tin had a very weak seal that opened easily without the need for a coin to pop it. The aroma is sweeter and there is not even a hint of the compost notes that were present in the first tin. Someone with more refined senses would tell you it’s figs, prunes, and the like. I’ll just say it smells good.

Solani Silver Flake from 2009. I was concerned that the tobacco might have dried up, but no, it was in perfect condition. The bag was sealed and did a perfect job preserving it. And no traces of rust anywhere in the tin.

That is in great shape. I just posted my Penzanze tin and the can did have some rust but tobacco fine. I think the bag must have made the difference for you.

I know a couple other members that are digging this one. First impressions? Mine should arrive by Monday, but i may not get around to being able to open it for another week or so thereafter. Looking forward to it.
I like it.good vitamin N. Very smoky. Good sweetness. I need to do more research but i think it a winner.

Unfortunately I didn't know about this thread a few days ago when I opened this one, but this was the tobacco that completely changed my world and now my previously favorite blends have become everyday filler tobaccos.. This tin in particular was aged for about 10 years... Ohh the funk🤩IMG_0316.jpeg88285AC9-D711-48F4-BAE4-791C95893184.jpeg
