I moved a friend (drove his Uhaul) from Vancouver, WA to a small town just south of Knoxville. Instead of going straight home, my dad flew into TN and we did a 7 day, 1900 mile tour of the state. In each area, I met with a realtor. When we returned to WA, we used zillow (some) and realtor.com(a lot) to find properties. If we found one we liked, we contacted the realtor from the area I had met to go get 'real' pictures, etc. Memphis and Nashville were out because I have divergent opinions with those areas. Chatanooga has vehicle emissions testing, which I find a waste of government. We settled on a town outside Jackson, TN. I live off a dirt road (something I honestly didn't think happened anymore) on a small farm and it is paradise. Not being in Memphis has the added bonus of not being in a crime ridden craphole (albeit with great BBQ).
The tipping point for our move was driving to the plumbing supply store and finding myself in the middle of an armed Antifa rally in a suburb of Vancouver, WA. I didn't spend 22 years on the wall protecting from without only to see it slip away from within, so to speak. That was in October of '20 and we liquidated everything of ours and my dad (can't leave your battle buddy behind) and were moved and settled by May 10th, 2021.
