Finally got around to trying a Stillwell Star. The Bayou is going to be discontinued and so I snagged some to try while I still could. I'm a perique lover so I was very excited for this.
It was... underwhelming. The cigar leaf was quite mild - tasty, but mild. I think this is necessary to allow for the pipe tobacco to not get overwhelmed by the stronger leaf. If I didn't know there was perique in this, I never would have guessed. It was a tasty cigar but the burn was a big issue. I guess the smaller bits of tobacco in the filler burn a lot faster than the wrapper and so tunneling was a big issue. If I smoked it slower, it needed a lot of relights. And the last third got very hot and the cigar was mushy. Not an optimal cigar experience, which might explain why these aren't more popular. Curious if others had the same experience.
