IMG_7196.jpegMy wonderful friend and neighbor gave me her Grandfather’s pipes that hadn’t seen the light of day for decades. She said her grandfather died before she was born (52 years old now) but she had pictures of him always with a pipe in hand.

What a great gift! She knows I enjoy my pipes and wanted them to be used and appreciated. Yes Ma’am, mission accepted.

The corn cob is Missouri Meerschaum and absolutely enormous, as is the WDC (the smaller WDC on the right is mine just for comparison). The Indian is stamped “Made in Italy, Italian Briar” and the billiard is Stamped “Brewster, Imported Briar”.

All in good shape and will clean up easily. Must have been in a drawer because there’s very little oxidation for being stored over 50 years!

The cob is just freaking HUGE. Must take a quarter tin of tobacco each time. The bowl is 5-1/2” tall and the stem is 11” long. I had no idea that MM made anything that size. Would love to know the model number/name of that one.

Well, it doesn’t get more poetic than this, given the circumstances—I believe the Missouri Meerschaum pipe is the “Grandpa A” from the 1950s—I have the “Grandpa B” as seen in my post:

Looking more closely at the catalogue, the stem doesn’t match; the one from the the ’50s is much more slender and curved. The bowl looks right, though. I don’t know how long the model was in production and if went into the ’60s or ’70s. Maybe reach out to Missouri Meerschaum and ask what your pipe might be.

Have a link? A casual eBay scroll through 1,000+ pipes this morning and I didn’t see this pic, but I’d certainly like to… I love busting eBay scammers.
i wasnt signed in, and i autodeete cookies on exit.

however I cant forget the photo. especially that damned carved pipe at the top. I have a hangover and migraine today from trying to drink it out of my head.

was lookin at estate pipes on ebay today. exact same picture on a listing.
Seriously?? This AI bullshit is annoying me because I took that photo and only ever posted it here.

Could be just some random scammer but it still sucks. 🤬

I’ve now smoked them all and that Indian figural one smokes surprisingly well! As expected the two ginormous ones take a loooong time to smoke.

Part of the Great Enshittification of the Internet
I also noticed that since i wasnt signed into ebay while searching, i kept getting the same page of listings over and over again. I mean page one would would show up AGAIN when i clicked on page three with no changes.

But there is a seller on ebay with hundreds of used pipes for sale.. al with a starting bid for some reason. I mean i counted 20 identical medico pipes with 1 bid of 1.99 on them.

I’ve noticed that eBay and YouTube are full of ad invested probably AI generated bland repetitive garbage lately. Google searching has become more useless and unhelpful too. I suppose everything has a life cycle and it seems like we are approaching the logical ending whereupon what was previously novel and amazing isn’t anymore. Perhaps, or maybe I’m just being too cynical but either way it holds little interest to me in the last year or two. It’s probably a good thing as I’m spending less time online and more time working out and relaxing in the garden or with my hobbies. And that is a positive thing!
