Yes, I wonder how the OP feels about colonoscopies or gastroscopies ?I guess an estate of one of these is out of the question.

I've never put my mouth on a community or a private toilet. However, I have no problems with an estate pipe that appeals to me. Guess I've never found a toilet that does the same.rarely put my mouth on a community toilet. Rarely.
Absolutely, it stains my cloths pretty good. I use a lot of it.I wonder if betadine would work as a stain for refinishing “estates for germaphobes”….
Read my first post in this thread.Hmmm, care to elaborate?
Funny you should say that, because St Padre Pio strongly advised against using things that had belonged to a dead person. What I read specifically dealt with wearing clothes from a deceased person, but I strongly believe that anything used long and regularly by someone gets imbued with his essence to a lesser or greater degree. Ever put on something that belonged to a departed one and felt depressed that day? Well, something to do with the garment, chances high. You want to smoke a dead man’s pipe and deal with his ghost?
Imagine a hand-rolled cigar in Havana, where the electricity and water are cut off every day. It's always funny to me the germaphobes who enjoy pipe tobacco. I can guarantee the tobacco you're puffing on wasn't given a disinfecting bath after being grown outdoors! Gasp! The horror! Why any animal or bug could have come by and nibbled on it or peed on it. Not to mention the warehouse floors it sat on or the hands of folks at distributors or blenders who may have touched it.
If you want to ensure no germs or icky thoughts ever invade your sanitary bubble you should probably stick to vaping and lab grown meat.

The context and the things items are used for also matter. And with used stuff most times we simply have no idea not only how well they were taken care of (which impacts the more mundane issue of durability and hidden damage), but where they've been and what things were done with them. Who in his right mind and spirit would want to smoke from a pipe somebody else used to smoke whilst reading from a grimoire? Why would I want to use a leather knife that some pervious leatherworker used to make sexual bondage paraphernalia? &c., &c.
Even when I get brand new tools I spray them with holy water.
That’s all we really are, smoking our pipes (except not as stinky). All I did was call them toothbrush refurbishers.
You're comparing them to old ladies that collect fine China and that feels like a line you shouldn't cross.

Wait until he finds out that many pipe makers test the draw of their creations with their mouths. We fell into a trap. It's not about proving why Estate pipes are OK—which is accepted in the community—but rather about the author explaining why they would be unOK
Or how many do the same with "new" pipes at B&MsWait until he finds out that many pipe makers test the draw of their creations with their mouths.

Ooh, now I want a stainless steel stem just to say I have one. The only barrier is I don't think I can afford it.I’m an engineer for a company that builds very large scale automated food processing equipment. Plastics and acrylics all used in USDA controlled areas. Cutting boards are often delrin, nylon, or other plastics. Stainless steel is not by any stretch of the imagination the only material used in food processing or prep. But fwiw, I can make you a stainless stem for any estate pipe.
