I remember reading something about the Balsa filter collecting impurites from the tobacco. I couldnt remember where. Well, I found the site.

Balsa inserts aren't really a filter, as nothing much passes through them. Balsa is an absorbent. It absorbs everything, flavor, tar, water. Not sure what you mean about impurities? Unless the tobacco has non-tobacco stuff in it, like flavorings, PG or insecticide. Either way, I don't think that the balsa differentiates "pure" from "impure", and just absorbs a little bit of everything.

I like balsa inserts. This is one of those ride or die topics. Many here have strong opinions about filters, inserts, etc. Balsa inserts absorb. I don’t know what they absorb. I don’t taste any difference with or without. I just bought 100 for about $12.00. I use them without much thought other than they work.

I cut my own balsa and use them in both 6 and 9mm pipes...don't know about impurities, but helps with moisture.

I use balsa filters for the moisture, after smoking they are wet, and sometimes I see a little tart and ashes. I use them with the very mild blends cause I don't fell they take any flavor, for everything else I use activeted carbon filters. I wonder what are the impurities for you, like, stuff that gives bad flavors, or health issues ?

Even simple absorption filters reomve some tar, not as much as a pass through filter (AC or Meer) I have some but I havent used them much. Maybe I will dig them out and try them like @mpxstyle does. I like my AC 9mm filters but there are a few blends that lose too much. Some orental blends will disappear with a 9mm AC filter. Ive a couple of lat blends I prefer unfiltered but that depends on my mood.

I use balsa filters. They definitely remove some moisture and other particulates. If they do mute the flavor it hasn’t been detrimental to my experience.

Same for me.
