For me the "aha" tobacco was Arango Balkan Supreme, and I almost didn't post because I want more for me, dammit! I could definitely smoke this for weeks on end and be happy. But I'm still tasting my way through a lot of English and Balkan blends, so it may not stay on top.
This might have been mine at one point, but I think I gravitated more toward C&D Super Balkan.

For me, I’ve really never felt the compulsion to buy more than 4 or 8 oz at a time. First 8 oz amount I bought was GLP Quiet Nights. But as of last week, my biggest “bulk” purchase is getting 4 tins of HU Louisiana Broken, and that was after smoking a 1-bowl sample. After I purchased the LB, I smoked another sample and confirmed that this was very much an excellent impulse buy that I won’t soon regret.

It took me 30 years to get to that point, but that was more about the lesson learned with McClelland than anything else. Though I rarely smoke English anymore (oh, how the palate changes), latakia made me take to the pipe for a lifetime (Rattray 7 Reserve). We didn't stock up back then. Very few people cellaring. I only knew one guy doing it, and he was more of a hoarder than what we consider cellaring today. It was like a pack of cigarettes. finish the tin and then go buy another. Tin after tin after tin of Nightcap and then BS759.

C&D Briar Fox. When I first started I didn't like burley or burley blends, but VaBurs have become my go to. I like them so much now that I'm experimenting with blending my own.
It is great fun & fabulous results. Try lots of mixes (prefer not to use the word blends). Burley is great when part of a mix including other than Virginia. And VaPers are made more complex & enjoyable also.

LOL! Recently, as in the past year or so, 5 pounds of GL Pease Quiet Nights, 4 lbs of Autumn Evening, 5lbs of "Larry's Blend", and 4lb of Peters Norwegian. I figure with the great and inevitable disruption of society, I will darned if I have to grow my own pipe tobacco. ;)

I haven't purchased 5lbs of any blend on a single order but the first blend I ever bought a pound of is Lane HGL. I buy C&D Haunted Bookshop 2lbs at a time when I need more since it is my favorite blend.
