I'm not a perfect driver. But I follow the law. But I'm noticing more and more people are driving like there aren't any law or right of the way. No blinker? I get it. Too many assholes won't let you in if you have blinker on. But, no headlights at night? What about high beams all day and night? Last minute change in travel plan going across three lanes? No signal, no indication merging at expect everyone to let you in? Opening door without checking? People ignoring crosswalk and just runs into the street. Call me a bitter man, but I draw line when my lunch lands on the floor of my car.

Drivers these days seem to think that since their car will physically turn without turning on the signal that its unnecessary. It kind of falls into the same category of being polite to one another, we don't do that anymore. So why would use or turn signals, that kind of thing is for the benefit of those around you. As a society we have vilified doing anything for the benefit of others.

They keep replacing stop lights with round-abouts, and it's like the munchkins looking at the house that fell out of the sky. People slamming on brakes when they get to them, people driving straight across them, and I've seen a guy cut through a yard to keep from having to get in it. I don't like them either, but at least I don't lose my mind over it.
I'm pretty sure round-abouts are a step towards communism. puffy

Another pet peeve, is when someone pulls out left into four lane road divided by a turning lane, and drives down the center lane until they can merge in. It is a reckless driving charge here to do that. And, it causes accidents all the time. Once a week, I see someone get pulled over for it. Yet, people do it daily. If you can't immediately merge in, just wait.

I thought you were going to address problem and dangerous behaviors among drivers. So far, all of this seems normal.
30 years ago, my nephew, on a visit to LA, referred to the style as "combat" driving, and it hasn't gotten better. Given that driving is a privilege and not a right, more license suspensions and revocations seem appropriate. I've witnessed astounding acts of wilful stupidity or perhaps genetically induced environmental blindness, thousands of them over the years.
Moreover, horrible driving practices occur everywhere. In Dallas I used to see drivers roar up an on ramp only to slam on the brakes at the top, and then floor it. In NYC and Boston I've seen people turn a sidewalk into an extra traffic lane, (LA as well) and those turnabouts in Boston are a trip! In Rome, crossing the street could be a suicide mission. I kicked fenders and cursed drivers in fluent Italian, making my way across. It may very well be that the mass of Homo Sapiens are just too dumb to be allowed behind the wheel of a car.

100% true:

A rural(ish) town within the orbit of Kansas City got all Righteous 'n' Shit about rebuilding their main arterial street with roundabouts to Save the Planet, spent a couple years and stupid money doing it, and then discovered they were too small in diameter for city busses, school busses, and a high percentage of trucks to use.

How is that level of stupidity even possible?

Because the same dynamic is in play at the local level that has recently bloomed at the state and city level around the country. The creatures who are driven to be in charge, who think they MUST be in charge, and will do ANYTHING to be in charge---meaning the dark triad biological specimens humanity has always produced---have ju jitsued the mechanisms of leadership selection by weaponizing the instant and constant communication afforded by social media. They find society's key positions and swarm them like army ants. School boards, city councils, elected DA's, elected judges, and so forth.

Result? You end up with categorical idiots in charge of everydamnthing. Combative, war-minded little shits who immediately go about surpressing all disagreement and assuming as much control of things as they possibly can, simply because that is what such people do. It's how they are wired.

Give them a "cause" of some sort to facilitate their coordination and provide pretext for taking action, and boy howdy does Houston have a problem.

Because competence and demonstrable skill in things connected to objective reality are not part of the package.

30 years ago in NC was a totally different place. We didn't have these crazy people. Or they were suppressing their desire to do whatever they wanted well under control. Or too many people from outside of NC moved in and didn't adapt, but carried their big city culture with them. Whatever it is, there are solutions. But it's like everything else. I have to drive more defensively since I won't be able to change anyone else. And getting my car outfitted with guided missiles system will be too cost prohibited, and possibly illegal even with current lack of crime control.

Yes, but now they have exponentially increasing high technology. There is no past precedent for the levels of evil, bedlam and destruction they can achieve now and going into the future.

unfortunately, this can be said for much of the area. I live in the mountains of North GA - 15 min from SC and not for from NC. I have alot of work in Western NC.
These once small mountain towns are now filled with those who've fled the cities. Most of them still work in places like Atlanta and commute there from the mountain. Developments all over places like Dahlonega, traffic is awful because the roads aren't set up for it. Its truly a nightmare. I just pray my area doesn't change as much as some of the more well known towns. It's very sad what's happening to alot of these places.
But yeah, the traffic is disgusting.

Bingo

Many people think that nothing is happening today that hasn't happened before, so are categorically unconcerned.

While it is true that change is a constant in "principle" terms, the timeline has been accelerating exponentially. What used to take generations, then lifetimes, then decades---all of which allowed time for adapting, adjusting, and fine-tuning---is now happening in a few years.

Meaning by the time the general population truly understands the implications of the "convenience technology" and the "righteousness/equality technology" that they love so much today, it will be too late. Monitoring people at the micro-level will be implemented reality, and enforcement/punishment for violations of approved behavior will be as easy as shutting off their bank account.

Game over.

Learned to drive at 12 in NYC. Very good at avoiding accidents, so far.
Let me take that back. I'm a hit and run magnet. Last 4 accidents were someone running into my car and running away. Every one of 'em reported to the cops. The officers haven't caught any of 'em. It's like those funny videos where cat's bringing mouse to feed them cat food. With so many freaking cameras on intersections, I can't believe they missed all the accidents.
