Friends,
It's spring and I feel like sprucing up a sixties SC 31 Castello Old Sea Rock with a fumed rim.
The rim looks a little peaky. I suppose these rims were "stain fumed " ?
Please share your appreciated thoughts and your educated guesses !

Savinelli recently released a line of pipes featuring fumed rims. Never cared for the look, looks like a burnout forming or careless lighting.

I have many of the SC era Old Antiquari pipes in the collection. I love the dramatic fumed top pipes Castello has been putting out the last few years. They are beautiful and I’d love to add some to the collection but I haven’t seen many larger pieces in my shapes show up as estate pipes yet.

I wouldn’t touch it. The top looks correct for the era. I have one that I believe was restained and it sticks out like a soar thumb. The fume look stain was very understated compared to the new over the top look.

Thank you Tom.
That is exactly my intention.
Even more, it looks a little peaky and I contemplate giving it a black touch up.
We are talking in circles , no one yet responded to my first inquiry :)
A photo of the pipe in question would help a lot.

In fact, without it, I am at a loss to give an opinion other than, in general, a fumed rim is not a look I care for.

I love them. I have two old antiqauris with fumed rims, and two of their Aristocratica pipes which have the fumed rims as well, but are smooth.
