Major bite but for me it is on my soft palate. Sores and redness. All from a quarter bowl of PS Luxury Navy Flake. I stopped at a quarter because I just did not like it. To me it was sour apples... literally. Hay, grass and sour. Like freaking sour mash whiskey - ISH! So I dumped my fold and pack bowl and two days later I have sores on my soft palate. Fuck my life!!!! Smoking a Partagas Cigar now. I am done with the pipe until I heal up which may take at least a week based on the last time this happened :(

Have you had any other problems with either perique or virginias? It could be that the sugars in the virginia got too hot and combined with the moisture actually burned you. Perique has a very high ph which increases nicotine absorption in the mucus membrane, so that could be the cause of the sores as well.

My experience with the PS Navy Flake is that is a very strong hitter for me. Makes me cough. Lately I'm drying the crap out of it and mixing it with other things. I'm having good luck with this approach. I'm coming up with some nice tasting stuff that's very pleasant to smoke. But yeah the PS Navy Flake lets you know.

The problem could be one of several things. Smoking too fast, smoking too much, smoking a bad pipe or smoking a rough tobacco. First off I recommend you stay away from Virginias and aromatics. Try some Sir Walter Raleigh. puffy

I have experienced that, but wasn't clever enough yet to determine exactly what leaf was the culprit.
You'll heal up.
Then on to another genre.
I've never had it happen with an English blend.

Be sure you're not puffing too vigorously. A lot of folks overdo that and get bit. Meantime, explore the burley blends. It may just be the Virginia. I've alway found PS Luxury Navy Flake fairly mild, so maybe you have a sensitivity to something in the blend.
