That’s from heat. If you have red circles with a white center, you’ve caused heat trauma to the minor salivary glands in the roof of your mouth. Google “smokers palet” see images. Some kids like to place the lit end of a cigarette in their mouth and draw on it. That’s the kind of heat that will cause this trauma.

If it is your salivary glands, cease smoking for a few weeks and allow them to heal. If you do not, they will only worsen.

If you’ve packed your bowl too tightly and drew hard to keep it going, you’ve sucked in steam and intense heat. Don’t do that.

I have a couple ounces of 1Q and it did not bite me but I don't remember it being all that tasty either. I will give it another try when I heal up
One thing that might help....try just lighting the center of the bowl and get it going. Sometimes lighting up the entire bowl can get things hot. Use your tamper to fold in the sides that aren't burning as needed. Then just sip it. You should start getting a cooler smoke and getting the flavor. You are right....get completely healed up first.

To see if your tobacco is too moist, try the pinch test. Pinch your tobacco between your fingers. If it sticks together then it is too moist. Tobacco that is too moist can cause your mouth to burn. Set a little tobacco out on a plate and let it dry before you load the bowl. It is not a perfect test, but it is a start. Adjust as needed.

That stinks. I used to kill my palate when I started smoking a pipe(first couple of years) and found that I was smoking tobacco that was really too moist. Went to a local tobacconist here in Az and he suggested letting it dry out quite a bit, almost to the point it looks too dry but not crumbly. I have used that technique for all my tobaccos since and haven't had the issue but once.......... that was on a slow smoke competition with some very moist MacBarens Vanilla roll cake. I couldn't smoke for almost 2 weeks after that fiasco.
