D'oh, @hawky454, I just saw that you had already mentioned the McConnell in your post. I blame it on my bad eyes.
And I just saw this, so I posted a reply to your other post, haha! No problem mate, I’m the worst offender when it comes to this… I always miss things because I tend to skim through the posts, then I respond and realize my folly just in time for my posts to go immutable.

Haha! I try to read through all the posts in a thread before responding to any. I know there are folks here who don't even read the original post before posting! But it's hard when the thread takes longer to read than the time to get on the John and out again!

I'm sorry you can't get rose flavored Turkish delight in Austin. I'm blessed with a middle eastern shop here in Portland that carries them in multiple brands. And "mastic" flavor too, which tastes like pine resin and probably is in fact pine resin!

I have never tried the dried leaves but I always use a splash of rose water in my iced tea… it’s delicious!

It’s funny you mention the cake, I have a concentrated rose tincture that I bought from an Asian market. On the back it gives you a guide on how much to use in cakes, boiled sweets, biscuits, icing, creams and even fudge. You are right, other cultures are used to florals in their foods, drinks and even gum. You never, or rarely see florals in foods in the US, which is another reason why I think Americans have such a hard time with it in their tobacco (Lakelands), we equate it to soaps, fragrances and cleaners, not something we consume regularly. I would personally love to try cake with floral notes in it. I went on a mission to find a floral Turkish Delight but I couldn’t find any that had rose or florals in them in Austin, they were all Americanized.. even the TD’s I bought at the Greek and Asian markets.
Indians drink rose-flavoured lassi and rose syrups
In SE Asia ice concoctions eg ice campur more likely
than not have rose syrup added
As a child I preferred rose-flavoured jelly rather than the more usual lemon/orange/strawberry ones
My favourite Turkish delight are the rose flavoured ones still.

But smoking a rose-scented tobacco ?
I think not.

This thread inspires me to try my own experiment with cloves. I'll tie some to the roof of my house of a year, and see what that does. puffy
I don’t think it’ll keep vampires away. That’s garlic. But I KNOW it won’t keep ME away! Every morning when you come outside, I’ll be up on top of your house sniffing the gutters and licking the shingles. You know, real normal stuff. Bc clove is THAT good. ?

Well, I guess I would have to tie off a corn cob up there also, and then one of the hobos that were attracted to the cob pipe would keep you knocked off of my roof. puffy

Does the clove crackle when smoked?
I do remember 25 years ago back in high school, when smoking clove cigarettes, they would sometimes pop & crackle when you hit a clove. But I’ve never had that happen so far with this experiment, as I’m taking the clove bits out. And of course I’ve never had it happen with the Bosun Cut Plug. But that’s a whole different thing.

I'm not a big clove fan, but I appreciate the endeavor. Just a thought... you could put some in a small piece of cheese cloth and tie it up, then put that in your bag of tobacco. I believe you will get close to the same results without having to pick out the cloves.
That’s a great idea. Like essentially steeping tea, or making a potpourri pouch. I think I’ll see if my wife has any. Thx!

Yep when I first started making my own I was grinding my clove fine - I noticed it never made the "Kretek" sound (Kretek, I believe, is actually Indonesian onomatopoeia for the crackle sound they make) AND it didn't deliver as much flavor as I wanted.
By making it a bit more coarse I got an increase in both sound and flavor.

here's the cloves I use..

To grind them I use a ceramic burr grinder. The final product looks like this -

Ahhh, so you’re in Louisville, I see.
I used to live there. Just down the road in Versailles now, Lexington metro.

I should have read this discussion before I placed my latest Esterval's order. I just checked their website and they have McConnell Red Roses in stock. The description says it has rose buds, rose oil and caramel flavors.
I've always wanted to try that blend! Never saw it available anywhere.

Did you grow up in Louisville or just live there a while?
The Penzeys store in St Matts actually just closed down. Probably because trying to shop there the last two years was a complete pain in the ass.

Unfortunately I just placed an order with Estervals yesterday so it will be about six months before I make another order. I did order some Danske Club White Roses which uses white rose flowers as one of the flavors.

I grew up in Lex. When I was first married, we lived there a while over off of Hurstbourne in a super nice apartment that cost more than any mortgage we’ve ever had. Lol. We were young, good jobs, and no clue about housing costs.

My brother-in-law and his family live there, and he had a dental practice out in Anchorage for years.

I also went to seminary at SBTS. But that was while I actually lived in Lexington. But I obviously spent a ton of time in Louisville during that time.

St. Matthew’s/Highlands area was always my fave part of town. And I used to frequent the Oxmoor Smoke Shop quite regularly. Miss that place. Hope they’re still on business.

You're not into SG and GH florals then? I love them! ??
I had a bowl of Ennerdale flake for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago.

Still trying to get my head around that Lakeland essence. A few have commented that the current blend has been toned down considerably. You must have been able to smell the older stuff from a mile off.

Someone will no doubt think of bringing out a durian topped blend ?
