I see the discussion/question of a clove pipe tobacco pop up here from time to time. And I’ve made no secret of my own love for clove flavored everything. The tobacco I was most encouraged to try for clove was Bosun Cut Plug. While it’s a fine tobacco, it’s not what I’m looking for.
I was in the local B&M chatting about Djarum and old clove cigarettes with them a day ago. After we sufficiently bashed the anti-tobacco, double-standard government and called politicians various names, we started up about clove pipe tobacco. I told John (works there) how some had suggested spraying clove oil on some tobacco you like and letting it dry, and how that would probably work, but I’m wayyyyy to lazy for a science experiment like that.
He suggested just buying some whole cloves like his mom used to stuff in a ham. Then he gave me a couple free ounces of a straight Kentucky burley blend, no casing, and said go try it out. Said leave them in the bag/jar with the tobacco til I feel it’s where I like it.
Admittedly, I smoked one delicious bowl ere the task began. But last night my wife got back from the grocery and the journey began.
Stuck my nose in the bag this morning. Smells like we’re heading in the right direction.
