Pineapple on Pizza: Yea or Nay?

Perhaps you missed it, but February 9, 2022 was National Pizza Day here in the states.

Despite its Italian origins there are many who choose to celebrate the day as a chance to acknowledge what is believed by many to be among Canada’s top 3 contributions to world culture: the pineapple pizza*.

*The late Sotirios "Sam" Panopoulos was a Greek immigrant widely credited for inventing the Hawaiian pizza in southern Ontario, Canada. According to lore, in 1962, he spread ham and pineapples onto a standard cheese pizza at his restaurant, the Satellite Diner and the Hawaiian pizza was born.

The acid from the pineapple makes the cheese stringier, which is cool. Pineapple, pepperoni, and onions is one of my faves.

I don't lIke pineapple on my pizza.
i like most meats with peppers.

mini hot dog sausages, spicy chicken and peppers would be my first choice.

Haha, I'm not a purist, but no pineapple for me. Pineapple is for tossing in with slow-cooked and smoky, barbecue beans and wieners!

and they're wrong too. Cause what we call pizza is something that's changed and evolved over a much longer time then one would think. It's like a sandwich it's something that is readily able to take change and make it's own version from anywhere in the world.

I believe a Hawaiian pizza has its own place, but is not my favorite. When I have one, it is with ham, pineapple, onions, and hot peppers. Alternatively, I like ham/chicken with pineapple and bbq sauce.

I prefer a supreme or meat lovers pizza, and sausage with onions.

Yep, typically pineapple, pepperoni, roasted red peppers, onions, banana peppers, and black olives.

One of the my favorite combination of toppings includes pepperoni, bacon, red onions, jalapeños & pineapple.

I like Hawaiian pizza from time to time. The sweetness of the pineapple contrasts nicely with all that salt from the cured meats.

I say only put them on your pizza if that's how you like it. I don't eat too much pizza and I don't judge or really care.

Lots of pizza made here isn't "authentic". I don't care. Pizza can be many, many things to different people. I like Armenian pizza topped with minced lamb. Why limit yourself?
