I know it’s not yet Festivus, & as this is my first holiday season with you fine folks, I fully expect the airing of grievances to be an amazing time on this forum. I hope to see many a grumbly thread on December 23.

But I just wanted to go ahead and get warmed up. Kinda get in the spirit of things.

I’ve got some Match MM 965 in a ziplock bag. And this stuff is really, really good. Just went to load some up and noticed the bag was not sealed all the way. Ugh. And it’s fine. It really is. I’m not worried about the tobacco sitting opened for a day or so. I’ll just have a nice dry smoke. Perfect.

BUT I REALLY SUCK AT CLOSING ZIPLOCKS BAGS.

And it’s not like I don’t have literally years of practice at it. Not just tobacco. But all kinds of stuff. Fruit. Small toys. Paper clips. (Deez) Nuts and bolts. (Got eem.) Goldfish crackers. Samiches. And more.

And when I do actually get one completely ziplocked, there’s too much air in the bag.

And it’s all compounded by the fact that my wife can just run her fingers right across the bag once, barely paying attention to what she’s doing, and get the prefect seal with no trapped air. Every. Single. Time. (I married up, obviously.)

I have to fumble with the bag for about 30-60 seconds. And it’s just such a frustrating 30-60 seconds. That 30-60 seconds ghosts the next five minutes of my day.

Like, is it just a man thing? Like picking up the chair bent over with your head against the wall or whatever that is? Do we just lack the innate ability to seal a ziplock bag well?

And I won’t even get started on how every tobacco that comes in a ziplock bag… COMES IN A DIFFERENT VARIETY OF ZIPLOCK BAG. I mean, why isn’t there only one standard ziplocking mechanism? There’s the thin little zip line, the fat double zip lines, the ones that change color like you’re a 3-year old, etc., etc.

Anybody else share my disdain and inability?

What are your pipe woes?

Maybe we should go ahead and let the airing of grievances commence.

Are you related to my wife? She has trouble with ziplocks, whereas I get them almost vacuumed tight.

Not a fan of the bag either, but running out of lighter fluid is my most recent grievance?

I almost exclusively use matches. But I’m pretty sure I’m getting some sort of nice pipe lighter for Xmas.

My dad loves those old nimrod style lighters that look like bolts you pull apart to light in the center. He got me one 20 years ago and I hated it.

I’ve had a couple cheap butane lighters over the years. But I’ve always just tossed them when they ran out. Never wanted to fool refilling them.

But I guess I’ll be entering that domain soon. Not looking forward to it. The refilling part. It’ll be nice to give up fumbling with matches.

How often do you have to refill?

I fill my Zippos about once a week. Not a big deal… just ran out. I use matches as well. I think Santa is bringing me a nice butane lighter too?

I usually fill - or at least top up - my Zippo on Wednesdays and Sundays. But I do carry a little Zippo emergency flask of lighter fuel in my pipe bag just in case I forget.

Not pipe related, but I am plastic wrap retarded. I can’t get the shit to tear right, and end up with a big ball of plastic that barely covers whatever dish I am trying to cover. My wife, seems to just seemlessly tear and cover stuff like a champ. WTF

Absolute same. I gave up trying to reason with plastic wrap a long time ago. But it frustrates the life out of me when she’s used it to cover a cake or a dish or something, and I have to remove it and try to put it back. I usually just don’t even bother trying to eat whatever’s underneath it.

Ziplocks!! Very few that come from merchandizers of tobacco are thick enough.
But whatever bag you have, rolling it up from the bottom helps by adding some barrier to keep moisture in or out. Then fumble with the zipping part; sometimes not necessary.
