Butter Tarts

What is your stance on butter tarts?

For those who don't know, a butter tart is a pastry crust filled with a maple syrup/corn syrup/egg mixture and baked until semi-set. Sometimes there are raisins in the filling.

They are considered to be a Canadian delicacy.

I think they are far too sweet and have the consistency of mucus. I am not a fan, AT ALL. But food, like music, pipes, or anything else, is all about personal preference.

What is your opinion?

My wife makes them for Christmas, I love them. She makes the filling out of brown sugar, butter, heavy cream, and egg. I like them plain or with walnuts, don't like them with raisins as much.

I also find these teeth breakingly sweet, but I still enjoy one once in a bluemoon. I prefer the little egg custards that are baked in a similar little tart shell.
