At the upcoming Chicago show, on May 1st, Mac Baren will introduce their new HH Latakia Flake. Also on that same day, PipesMagazine.com will publish the first-ever review of it, and Brian will have an exclusive interview with Per Jensen on The Pipes Magazine Radio Show to talk about this fantastic new HH blend.

In the meantime, here's a little fun we had with the photoshoot.

Mac Baren's description of HH Latakia Flake:

This is a hot pressed flake tobacco, meaning that during the pressing steam is added to mature the tobacco further and to ensure a mellow smoking experience. A blend of bright Virginias, spicy Orient, a bit of burley, and a fair amount of Cyprus Latakia is the foundation of HH Latakia Flake.

The taste is complex with the smoky note from Latakia in the front seat, the subtle sweetness from the Virginias working in the back, and the mellow spiciness from the Orientals popping up from time to time, creating an intimate interplay where all tobaccos play their role and contribute to this unique smoking experience.

HH Latakia Flake has very little casing and no top flavour at all. The only taste you will experience is the natural taste from the tobaccos used.

A mellow, yet satisfying tobacco, with a lot of nice, smoky aroma.

Only available in USA at the moment.

Sweeet...If it's anything remotely as good as ODF, then I'll be needing to acquire a few tins.

As I was the first person in the U.S. to taste test it, I'll be posting the first review in just a moment. I enjoy smoking it quite a bit.

Sounds wonderful. I just hope Mac Baren see fit to release it in the UK. Very frustrating that the only HH blend available here is ODF. Much as I love that one, I'm sure some of the others would appeal to me too, especially Vintage Syrian.

With Mac Baren that moment could last for eternity but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

    Sounds awesome!

By the eternal! There is a man whose form should be cast in deathless bronze and the statue placed in every college in the land. It is not book-learning young men need, nor instruction about this and that, but a stiffening of the vertebrae which will cause them to be loyal to a trust, to act promptly, concentrate their energies; do the thing - "carry a message to Garcia!" As much as I like ODF I'll be ordering several tins for the cellar as soon as I can. I'm sure I'll like it!

Has anyone who has tried this stuff liked it enough to purchase it in the 16oz box that just became available? After being on the market for six months or so, I haven't heard too many people raving about it.

Beezer: I have several tins of it, and a little over a pound in bulk. I see some people on other forums smoke it, and I noticed the free samples that MacBaren was giving away at the Richmond show were requested just as much as the new Modern Virginia flake and loose cut were. They told me that it was selling well, and more than that, I dunno.

I read Jim's review and have heard mention here and there. I have been on a non-Latakia kick lately, but have been appreciating the benefits of flake and the melding of flavors. I'm going to give this one a try... I'm quite curious.

Actually, I have heard quite a few people on this forum talk about it lately. I haven't heard anything negative, and I for one love it.

I have posted on this quite a bit here, and my review is on tobaccoreviews.com:

    http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend/7911/mac-baren-hh-latakia-flake

This is a blend used as a weekly treat--and crumbled up in a few other tobaccos. The cellar holds 11 tins, another that is open. I would seriously consider going for a pound of this to cellar for 5 years--once I get my stock of Arango Super Balkan up to 10 pounds...

My latest TAD included 5 tins of the stuff; I absolutely love it. But where can I find the 16 ounce box of the it? I checked smoking pipes and P and C, but could not find it. Found the tins, just not the box. Help!

Thank you, sir. I searched for it but could not find it. Glad to see smokingpipes has it, as they are my go-to vendor.
