Hello everyone

it's been a long time since I've written, so I like to say goodbye to everyone and to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !!

I'm looking for help: in some of my Dunhill pipes (bought in estate condition around 1980 period) , there is a "JO" stamp

I have tried in every way, but I have not found answers

What is the stamp "JO" ?? the initials of a famous collector? the initials of a famous shop (like Huber in Germany)?

Thank you for your time!!

Greetings from Italy!
Andrea

Okay, there it is. Been looking as well, and they seem a rarity. Don't see them in any stamping history that I can find either.

We have a number of Dunhill experts on here, hopefully they will chime in as well and help to solve the mystery.

Dave is correct. That is the stamp of the Ostermann's Shop ( now closed ) from Vienna.

Why would a pipe shop add their stamp on a pipe made by someone else than them?

pipebuddy, quite simply so they can keep track of any pipe they sold that might ever be returned for some issue. If it does not have their shop stamp, they know it was not purchased from them and thus have no reason to offer any warranty.
Castello stamps many of their pipes with shop stamps. N1 = Novelli, N = Noli, BO = Bonfiglioli etc
