A few days ago I received a Stanwell Black Diamond in the mail, gifted to me from a friend on Instagram. The easy clean up I expected turned into a full blown project, with me "undressing" the pipe and restaining it. Here's the rest of the story if you're interested:

Thanks, gents. I don't know if that piece of briar got unlucky and I got lucky or what. I really was afraid what I might find under that black coat!

Looks better than Sir Stanwell could have done it himself!
Bet that will give you long, cool, sweet smokes.

Nice work, and you're lucky with what was underneath the original finish, but personally I like to have a pipe or two on hand that go with a tuxedo!
My two dress pipes are:
Chacom Samba 44 Ebony Bent Dublín with a green rim and green accents on the black acrylic stem
Chacom Volute 1 Orange

I love what you did to this pipe,my hat grain is beautiful. In my opinion it was a crime to hide that grain in the beginning. Just amazing what you accomplished, great job

That is a nice pipe! I had purchased a pipe with a finish that started to bubble off. I wish I had thought to do the same thing.

Personally , I prefer the ebonies, but still that's a remarkable job you did.

Ofcourse great work as always Greg! A fine choice to "undress" this one, it's much more appealing this way.
