Many years ago I worked in a hotel as a bell boy. That particular hotel had a large number of american tourists, and some of them were pipe smokers. I especially remember some of them were smoking a kind of baccy I din't know - it smelled weird, just like chocolate or something.
Is that popular in the US, and what tobacco is it?

The only tobaccos I can think of with chocolate is one produced by Lane, Ltd, now Altadas(?) and Gawith's Bob's Chocolate Flake, neither one of which I've tried. If I want chocolate, I head for Hershey's.
As to their popularity, I cannot recall smelling any, even at pipe shows. I'm sure there are devotees of it but I haven't found any.

Pipesandcigars.com has a "chocaholics dream" sampler that looks good:

look about halfway down...don't buy Gawith's Mayors choc flake if you are looking for actual chocolate taste or room note(maybe a little)-it's a great flake ,though.

I doubt it was MacBaren's: Honey and Chocolate, which is a very pleasant chocolate aro.
Strangely enough, I have never seen this tobacco in Denmark.

Maybe it' export only

My bet would be Lane 1Q. Whenever I smoke that, my son says it smells like chocolate cake. It is the no.1 seller in the U.S..

Maybe I should go on a quest for the above mentioned tobaccos - or, since I'm getting hungry of just reading about it, I should just go out and buy a big cake...
