Why can’t people leave things alone!
Same box size for over hundred years & somebody decides it would be a good idea to render everybody’s Vesta case redundant!

It was bad enough when they ‘outlawed’ strike anywhere matches in favour of today’s so called safety match. Not safe at all, I’ve got more holes in my clothes from flying blims than I ever did with the older, superior strike anywhere variety. Now we’ve got a match twice as big, that burns up twice as fast, in a box that doesn’t fit my Vesta case. Brilliant! Effing brilliant!

@simong : But think of the 'Health & Safety' benefits! rotf I actually have the same issues and have given up using a Vesta case and I am not going to sit there cutting down matches to fit. Even the old safety matches that came in those wooden boxes with a battle ship on it will not fit in my metal Vesta case. I am waiting for them to kill off BIC lighters next due to my carbon fecking foot print!

I think the safety comes in when you have the matches all together in a shipment that could cause a huge fire if the boxes got smooshed right. I don't know but it might also be that us guys always thought we looked cool striking the match on the side of brick building but we really did not. That's possible anything to safe a generation from thinking they're cool and having to wait to find out the truth.
Bottom line though it's their matches and if they want to change them they can and we can buy them or not buy them.

Yes I do miss the old ones. They used to be my favorite match. But at the end of the day they're going to do what they find best for their interests and the best we can hope for is that it would align with our wants. Though here is a question, how hard would it be to make your own matches? From what I've heard it is very doable and easy. Just don't use white phosphorus.

I recently saw a sign on the door of a rather shit quality shop that was probably put there as a joke but was 100% accurate: “Just leave your wallet and go away”. The store should have been open according to the posted hours online and on the door, and the pricks were clearly visible in the store just staring out at the customers wanting to get in but they didn’t give a shit. We’re not talking about lunch hour, or anytime near opening or closing. Just couldn’t care less. Idiots. My wallet and I strolled on down the street.

I read a quote once: "All socialism eventually tends toward brutality and all capitalism eventually tends toward fraud." The more I think about it, the more sense it makes. Whether it's a Big Mac or a box of matches, most things you want will be smaller and cost more than last year.

You think capitalism drove this change?
