I've been sampling tobaccos like a madwoman, and the only two that I have really liked so far are McClelland's "Oriental" and "Rasberries & Cream". To me, they're super sweet, strong, smooth as smooth can be, and taste like they're supposed to.
Every other one I've tried that is supposed to taste like Vanilla (which I love in anything), Cherries, Chocolate or any other darn thing, well, they just taste like acrid burning baccy. I do not like alcohol tastes unless they're super sweet.
Can anyone suggest a true, real sweet aromatic along the lines of Oriental and R&C insofar as it actually tastes like the name claims it to be, is smooth and strong at the same time? I have a feeling that something men would find really sweet & sickly would be exactly what I'm searching for.

Those are the sweetest, best tasting aro's I've tried in that order. Oh, and Dan Tobacco "Blue Note" is pretty good too.

I'm going next week to visit Cornell & Diehl's place, it's only about an hour from my house. Would be going now but have some kind of upper respiratory crud and can't smoke at the moment.
C&D are known for their all-natural hand mixed blends and for their big aromatics. I'm also a huge fan of aromatics myself and like you, wish most would taste closer to their names, or if advertised with a certain taste/aroma it would be nice if they met that.
When I'm at C&D I plan on filling up my car with as much tobacco as it can carry! lol... It's a PT Cruiser convertible, so maybe will have to put the top down. Aussielass, I plan on testing as many of their aro's as I have time for, problem being they make so many aromatic blends that I could be there a week and not make it through them all Add to it, they blend for G. L. Pease, and I've asked him to suggest a few aro's for me so awaiting anxiously his reply. He seems a really nice and knowledgeable guy, so I'm sure whatever he suggests I'm going to like.
Once I make my trip and get my car stuffed, I'll post back here on the results. If you like, I'll try to send you some samples, Aussielass. No big issues shipping to Australia, are there???

poor aussielass probably can't get boswell tobaccos shipped there; dangling that deliciously sweet christmas cookie in front of her is just a cruel tease. good thing she's never tasted it or her mouth would water at the mere mention of it.

Not vanilla, but for something that tastes like it smells try Stanwell Melange. I'm not a big aro smoker but this one is my favorite. Think sweet apricots and cream.

Not sure if Altadis blends are available over there, but I have a friend who swears by their Creme Brulee blend, and says it tastes and smell just like the name implies.

I second fire dance flake. Very very berry and smooth. Can you get the good old Captain Black or 1Q where you are? I think the 1Q has more nicotine. Might just be me though?
I have been looking at this latly. I do not think they would be considered aromatic but they come in flavors. Has any one tried these Pig tails? Might need to start another topic for twist tobacco?

I hated - HATED - Firedance Flake. It may smell like an ice cream topping but good lord in heaven, it's nasty!
Founding Fathers is excellent. it's pomegranate and made of win and awesome. It's hands down my favorite aro.

No...No... Don't do it!

Stanwell Melange will ghost your pipe in only a couple of puffs.

As primarily an Aromatic Smoker I have to say that-that... stuff is the worst tobacco I have ever smoked.
If you want something that tastes like it smells try Mac Baren Vanilla Cream Flake.

I second Lawrence's noting of MacBaren's Vanilla Cream (flake/loose cut). Probably the best vanilla blend out there. Also the 7 Seas line from MacB is a good aromatic line. My favourite is the Regular blend. Good marrying of vanilla and chocolate flavour which intermingle and intertwine at times, and the black cavendish and golden burleys come to the forefront from time to time as well. Great combo of aromatic flavour and leaf flavour.

WOW thanks everyone for the replies, more than I had hoped for, and now I have lots to go check out, although as someone rightly said, can't get the stuff sent out here or, if I do, they charge $87 for 5 ounces to get it out of Customs clutches, bastiiiiiiiiids!!!!
OooWaaah, I had to giggle at Cyndi's comment - I never dared say a word about the FireDance, but I have some here and hated it - I'll give it another chance, but am not hopeful.
The Brands I get easy access to here in Oz are:
All the regular shite dried horse poo such as Borkum Riff, Dr Pat, Erinmore, Amphora (sold anywhere that sells cigarettes usually)
These are the ones I have to order from specialist tobacconists, of which there's really only a couple in the whole damn country:
McClellands )

Peter Stockkebye )

Saumuel Gawith & Co.)..... (all 3 Brands come loose, not in tins - they reckon a tin would add $10 to the cost, which is already $40 for 50gm or a small, regular size tin)
Some, or most, of Peterson's blends ($45 a small tin, pfft)
W.O.Larsen
Torben
Davidoff ($51 a small tin, pfft)
MacBaren Plum and Scottish (and I may've just found the other blends, just waiting to see if they retail to people or are just wholesalers)
Dan - HoneyDew & Blue Note, and a couple of others.
PipeMan
Captain Black
Blackwoods
Alsbo
Gallager Irish Cake
And that, my smoking buddies is IT - nothing else to be had anywhere which is a right PITA. Damned if I know why the manufacturers don't approach the 2 importers here and ask them to carry their brands, I'm sure they'd be greeted very well by the marketplace, although I'm happy to have found McClellands at one only supplier, just means I may be smoking "Oriental" & "Rasberries & Cream" until my dying day is all.
Edited to add: So after googling endlessly it seems the MacBarens Vanilla suggested by Lawrence may well be the ONLY one available out here so will definitely give it a try as soon as I can (just took delivery of $200 of McClellands Oriental and R&C that I'm hoping will last a few weeks).

McClelland Caramel Rush tastes of caramel. No lie. And I love the taste of McClelland Holiday Spirit, kinda chocolatey and nutty. McClellands Townsman Cavendish Blue has a good maple taste. I smoke these a lot as desert tobaccos, and if you can get it, "Just for Him's" pipe shop makes a great aro called Morning Coffee. :D

Pity you can't get McLintock pipe tobacco over there as I love their Orange Dream and Black Cherry. Can you order from overseas, or would you get slammed with a load of import duty?

Stokkebye's "Mellow Mocha" is really good...you can definitely taste the chocolate. Also, Stokkebye's Pistachio is very good as well.
I should have reviewed these great tobaccos a long time ago but I'm too freaking lazy :(

you know, if you do the math, buying 5 oz of stuff from america and paying $87 in duty is still cheaper than $40 per 50gm. well, not sure what shipping costs would add onto it. it might be a wash. there are many tobaccos available for under $3 per ounce at the american sellers' sites, which would put the combined cost at about $20 an ounce.
